What are GCSEs?
  • General Certificate of Secondary Education
  • They last for two years.
  • You have to complete coursework and sit exams.

Why is choice important?
  • If you choose something you enjoy you are more
    likely to be successful.
  • You need to choose 3 subjects which you would
    like to study other than your core subjects.
  • At the end of your GCSEs you will have lots of
    options. The GCSEs you choose could affect those
    options.

Which subjects do I have to take?
  • You have to take the core subjects which are
  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Remember that many careers require at least a
    Grade C in these subjects

What else do I have to take?
  • Apart from your core subjects .
  • Dont close doors by making your choice too
    narrow
  • Your teachers will be able to tell you more about
    the options available to you.

Which GCSEs do I need to take?
  • Some subjects can not be studied at Advanced
    level unless you have studied them at GCSE level.
  • French
  • Art
  • Drama in some schools
  • Science subjects

How do I choose?
  • Choose courses and subjects that match your
    interests, abilities and talents.
  • Choose the courses that will help you prepare for
    your future career.
  • Try new subjects like Business
  • Build upon your strengths and achieve success in
    the future.

How do I decide?
  • Find out as much as you can about the subjects
    you are thinking of taking.
  • Think about what you enjoy and what you are good
    at.
  • If you have any career ideas you will need to do
    a bit of research will you need a particular
    GCSE?

    its easy it probably isn't.
  • Dont choose a subject because your friend has
    chosen it you might not even be in the same
    class.
  • Dont choose a subject just because you like the
    teacher they may not teach you next year.
