Germans are stressed people
  • Germans are stressed people they get up around
0600 o'clock and then often have only few
minutes for breakfast. Because of their hectic
they often eat unhealthy food (e.g., Fast Food)
or have a coffee to go. At work they dont take
things easy and work hard. At noon sometimes
people eat nothing, because they have no time.
The work is usually too much, because a lot of
work has to be done by one person. At home then
also still the household waits and the child (if
there is one) is taken care of. The Germans go to
bed late and the cycle repeats itself.

Coffee and Cake
  • Coffee and cake on Sunday. This phenomenon is
widespread in Germany. The Germans always have
coffee and cake on Sundays in the afternoon.
Punctually at 1500 o'clock the Germans (and
really all people and age groups) sit comfortably
in the sitting room or on the terrace and have
coffee and cake. Nobody knows exactly where this
custom comes from. The coffee time is a
traditional meal between lunch and dinner in
Germany and other countries (e.g., Austria,
Luxembourg). Today as there is no time to sit
down during the week this event is reserved for
Sunday with carefully covered table (coffee board
with coffee cover) and guests (coffee party). In
Germany normally cake, torte or cookies are
    offered.

Soccer
  • German people are crazy about football. In
Germany there are about 27,000 football teams.
About 6,000,000 football players are signed in a
club . The best known football teams are FC
Bayern Munich, Werder Bremen, FC Schalke 04,
Borussia Dortmund and the Hamburger SV. The best
German football players have been Franz
Beckenbauer, Gerd Müller, Uwe Seeler, and Sepp
Maier. Today these are Jens Lehmann, Bastian
    Schweinsteiger, Miroslav Klose, Lukas Podolski
and Michael Ballack. About football no jokes may
be made. The Prussian customs are still held up
in this men-dominated world of the green lawn.
No intelligence or beauty is necessary.

Waste recycling
  • Protecting the environment is very important for
Germans. Sometimes the rubbish is collected in
separate trash cans to make the waste recycling
easier. Also biological rubbish must be removed
as fast as possible. Plastic is thrown into the
so called yellow bag or in the yellow bin. The
collected wastepaper comes into the green bin.
The normal rubbish comes into the black or the
grey bins, and the biological rubbish is thrown
into the brown bin. The plastic rubbish will be
used again and so from old yoghurt beakers new
ones will be made. Germans have to spend a lot of
time on collecting waste but most of them think
    it is worth it.

Every day life
  • Most German men and women get up at 6 o'clock.
Then they have a short breakfast, men about 10 -
15 min, women mostly eat nothing at all. Many
Germans go to work at 7 o'clock. There men work
approx 8 hours and women about 6 hours. Germans
have dinner between 18 and 19 o'clock and mostly
snacks are served. After dinner the Germans
relax. Mostly crime films and comedies are
watched then. On the long desired week-end the
computer is used or friends are visited. The
hobbies of the male respondents are mostly sporty
activities for which they find time for about 5
hours a week, the female respondents said they
spend most of the freetime reading for which they
invest 2 hours a week. The Germans go on holidays
2-3 times a year. Most Germans drive to Italy.
