• An estimated 2,800 people died in the disaster.
• About 260 died on board the four aeroplanes.
• The death toll also included about 300 New York
  firefighters.
• 24bn to restore the area around the World Trade
  Center site, and to repair things like the subway
  tracks and tunnels
• Another 14bn to boost the city's economy, which
  has suffered since the attacks because not so
  many people have visited New York and spent their
  money there. .

• On 11 September 2001 terrorists took control of
  four planes
• American Airlines Flight 11 crashed into the
  north tower of World Trade Center in New York at
  08.45 in the morning (13.45 in the UK).
• About 15 minutes later United Airlines Flight 175
  crashed into the south tower of the World Trade
  Center.
• At 09.40 American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into
  the Pentagon, US military headquarters, in
  Washington DC.
• Finally, 21 minutes later, United Airlines Flight
  93 crashed in a rural area 80 miles from
  Pittsburgh. Both World Trade Center towers
  completely collapse.

Why??
A lot of countries don't like the way America
gets involved with arguments in the Middle East.
Some countries really dislike America because
they think the US helps countries like Israel
during their conflict Palestine. Israel has been
arguing with Palestine for many years, over who
owns what land. America is seen to be
understanding towards the Jewish Israeli's point
of view, and some Muslims think that means
America is not understanding towards Muslims.It
must be made clear that only a small minority of
Muslims believe this.

Who?
It's thought there were 19 hijackers and the
key man that linked them all was called Mohamed
Atta. He was in the first plane to crash into the
World Trade Centre. Although no terrorist group
has taken responsibility for organising the
attacks Osama Bin Laden is the number one
suspect. Some experts think he's part of an
international group of Muslims including those
from Saudi and Egypt. They want to liberate
Islam's three holiest places Mecca, Medina and
Jerusalem.

Could it happen again

• Security, especially at airports, has been
  stepped up all over the world since the attacks
  on 11 September. In America President George Bush
  has provided money to make flying safer, and has
  made the following suggestions
• Armed security guards on flights
• Bullet-proof cockpit doors
• Tighter check-in security

Many innocent lives both in America and
Afghanistan have been lost in the war between
these two men.
