Goal of CARLI
  • To improve the health status of the
  • population by reducing the prevalence of the
  • risk factors associated with non-

Main objective
  • To reduce simultaneously the common risk factors
    of major NCDs such as smoking, unhealthy
    nutrition, alcohol abuse, physical inactivity and
    psychosocial stress.

Preparatory Period
  • November 2000- blueprint for CARLI
  • February 2001- stakeholders agreed to a CARMEN-
    like initiative in the Caribbean
  • Mid 2001- Blueprint finalized and disseminated
  • Sept 2001- CARLI endorsed by the Caucus of
    CARICOM Ministers responsible for Health
