5 In April 2000 Scanimation, Inc. was founded
as a new company specializing in integrated
solutions for scanning, measurement and
optimization technologies for the secondary stage
of the solid lumber industry in the North
American Market. The founding of Scanimation is
the result of more than 10 years of successful
and intensive cooperation between Scanwood
System (the former CTBA) based in Pont a Mousson,
France, and Control Logic Inc, headquartered in
Hudson, NC/USA. The two companies each hold 50
of the issued shares of Scanimation Inc.
6 Scanimation Inc. offers the North American
market a competent and experienced supplier
offering fully integrated solutions. Scanimation
as a systems integrator guarantees professional
consulting, sales and after sales service for the
different customized scanning technologies
provided in a packaged solution. Those are linked
with their own optimizing, decision, user
interface and PLC solutions. Scanimation works
frequently with the well established suppliers of
machinery and hardware for the lumber industry,
particularly in the rip and cross cut saw
business. Scanimation also works directly with
end users providing specialized solutions for
their unique scanning and optimizing needs in
automated solid lumber processing lines.
7 Following the highly successful debut
of Scanimation during the last 1 1/2 years in
North America, it became obvious that the
products developed for the North American Market
would also prove quite interesting for Europe
after some modifications required to properly
serve the European Market. For that reason
Scanimation Europe was established for the
Northern and Central European Market to supply
sensor systems as well as integrated scanning and
optimizing solutions for rip and cross cutting
and any other sorting processes in the solid
lumber industry. Scanimation Europe will be
co-located with Scanwood System in Pont a
Mousson, France. The German speaking market will
be served with an office in Dresden, Germany.
Both locations will provide comprehensive sales
and after sales service

23For the cross cutting of fillets and Square-edged
lumber and automation of defect marking.
24- Accurate Cutting Given the accuracy of the
defect localization, precise cuts are possible. - Adaptability You can modify the cutting rules as
often as needed. - Scanner is a Drop In replacement for existing
cutting lines - Allows the automation of difficult handling and
visual inspection tasks, improving productivity - Precise, consistent identification of defects is
based on a simple procedure easily understood by
a non-specialist.
25- Ensures that you obtain and maintain the required
level of quality. - Permits the use of lower quality raw materials
for the same parts. - Reduced labor costs A single scanner feeding two
cross cutting machines operating in parallel
replaces at least four operators. - Stable operation, free of human subjectivity.
