7IPv6 Uptake
- Study of the advantages of using IPv6 in Grid
context - DANTE deploying IPv6 (already started)
- IPv6 is effective if deployed in all domains
- The report will cover
- Study of features of IPv6, highlighting the ones
of interest for Grids - Availability of IPv6 in NRENs and access networks
- EGEE internal awareness of IPv6
- Also
- Collaboration with 6NET
- Possibility of building a testbed, needs to be
agreed
8Initial Milestones Deliverables
- Bandwidth Allocation Reservation
- DJRA4.1 (M6, Sep/04) Specification of Interfaces
(network control plane global resource
reservation middleware) - MJRA4.4 (M12, Mar/05) Prototype Implementation
of bandwidth allocation and reservation service
at specific network ingress points using static
network configuration - Network Performance Monitoring Diagnostic
tools - MJRA4.1 (M3, Jun/04) Definition of initial
network performance metrics and composite
measurements required - MJRA4.2 (M6, Sep/04) Requirements and use cases
for users, mw ops - DJRA4.2 (M9, Dec/04) Definition of standardised
network measurement query/response interfaces

9Sub-Tasks in Progress Bandwidth Allocation and
Reservation
- DJRA4.1 (M6)
- ST-2.1.1 Analysis of Existing Interfaces and
- ST-2.1.2 Survey of Software available today
- Partners UCL/CNRS/DANTE
- In Cork
?
Specification of Interfaces 1.- Actor 2.- Grid
Middleware (JRA1 Architecture) 3.- Multi-domain
BB 4.- Single-domain tool 5.- Network Devices
Architecture 1.- Multi Single-BB 2.-
Multi-domain BB 3.- Others
10Sub-Tasks in Progress Network Performance
Monitoring
- MJRA4.1 (M3)
- ST-1.1.1 Study of Performance Standards and
- ST-1.1.2 Selection of the appropriate Metrics
- Partners CNRS/DANTE/DFN/GARR
- In Cork,
- Some documents from standard bodies listed (IETF,
GGF) - Need for reviewed in detail
- Pointing to previous projects as starting point
(DataGrid, DataTAG)
11Sub-Tasks in Progress Network Performance
Monitoring
- MJRA4.2 (M6)
- ST-1.2.1 Requirements and Use case for end
users - Partners UCL/CNRS
- ST-1.2.2 Requirements and Use case for
Operations - Partners CNRS/DFN
- In Cork,
- Identifying contact points to gather requirements
and uses cases - End users -gt applications -gt start discussion
with NA4 - Operations
- Brainstorming sessions for identification of uses
cases and impact over the network
12Meeting JRA4 with JRA1-Integration
- We (Alberto Di Meglio) had a good overview of the
JRA1-Integration activity - Reviewed different options for platforms and
compilers/libraries to use - Identify a JRA4 contact person with
JRA1-Integration
13Amends to the TA
- Milestone for M3 (MJRA4.1) Definition of
initial network performance metrics and composite
measurements required - Nature of the Deliverables (R Report, P
Prototype)
14Summary
- Plenty of discussion and brainstorming inside the
activity - Better understanding of the activity for the JRA4
team - Good discussions between JRA4 and other
activities - SA2 (talks about having even closer
collaboration mailing, conf calls, f2f meetings) - JRA1 and NA4
- Clearly agreed to work closely with projects GN1
and GN2 - Agreed to contribute to forums such as GGF
- Still some key decisions to make for the
products, very much related to the design and
architecture - Pragmatic approach in the execution of the
activity. It is ambitious and we have to avoid
getting lost in details. Make it simple. - IPv6 uptake not yet started
- Overall, very positive meeting
