  • What we do
  • UNICEF helps children get the care and
stimulation they need in the early years of life
and encourages families to educate girls as well
    as boys.
  • It strives to reduce childhood death and illness
and to protect children in the midst of war and
natural disaster, including those affected by the
    HIV/AIDS pandemic.
  • UNICEF supports young people, wherever they are,
in making informed decisions about their own
lives, and strives to build a world in which all
children live in dignity and security.
  • Working with national governments, NGOs
    (non-governmental organisations), other United
    Nations agencies and private-sector partners,
UNICEF protects children and their rights by
providing services and supplies and by helping
shape policy agendas and budgets in the best
    interests of children.

  • A Natural Match
  • UNICEF and FIFA have proven a natural match
since the two became team mates. Over years, they
have been active in ensuring every childs right
to a peaceful world, free from conflict and
    abuse.
  • This year, the two unite once again for the 2006
FIFA World Cup in the spirit of UNITE FOR
CHILDREN  UNITE FOR PEACE. The campaign will
focus on global communications activities before,
during and after the 2006 FIFA World Cup in
Germany and will include various multi-media
initiatives on the web and television.
  • The goal of the campaign is to demonstrate how
footballers can serve as role models, and how the
game of football is one of the most powerful ways
through which the world can receive messages of
    non-violence, tolerance and peace.

Responsible Choices - TASK
  • You are a UNICEF education campaign team in the
Nottingham Region who has been asked to plan
educational activities for the Olympics in 2012.
  • Which activities do you propose to occur during
    the Olympics and afterwards.
  • They need to
  • a. Bridge the divisions globally and reach out to
young people in the South countries through the
    Games and related activities.
  • b. They need to address local divisions and aim
for a more united City of Nottingham.
  • Options Choose 2/3 or think up your own.
  • 1. A web based activity for those with access.
  • 2. A school based activity raising awareness not
money about other cultures in the city and other
countries in the Olympics, or an issue that is
    related.
  • 3. A Nottingham based area activity that would
connect your local area with other parts of the
city or county, and other cultures within it.
