Overview
  • The Clean Air Act is the law that defines the
    EPA's responsibilities for protecting and
    improving the nation's air quality and the
    stratospheric ozone layer.
  • The Clean Air Act of 1963, the original act, and
    was the first federal legislation regarding air
    pollution control.
  • It established a federal program within the U.S.
    Public Health Service and authorized research
    techniques for monitoring and controlling air
    pollution
  • It also approved expanded studies of air
    pollutant emission inventories, ambient
    monitoring techniques, and control techniques.
