OBJECTIVES -I
  • Applying results from molecular modelling and
surface science research to enhance the knowledge
    base of catalytic science.
  • Bridging the technological barriers between
surface science, catalytic science and industrial
processes by developing in situ techniques that
    monitor catalyst characterization and performance
    under industrial operating conditions.
  • Extrapolating from knowledge at the molecular
level to larger scale investigations, such as
    pilot tests.
  • --------------------------------------------------

OBJECTIVES
  1. The centre will carry out research in frontier
areas in catalysis including the following areas,
    namely, catalysis for refinery processes,
development of novel catalytic systems based on
meso- porous solids and nano-materials, photo
    catalysis, substituting the existing acid
catalytic processes into solid acid based
    processes, surface studies especially activation
of small molecules on single crystal surfaces,
    development of enzyme mimics, polymerization
catalysts and electro catalysts. Members of the
team have expertise and experience in all these
    areas.
  2. To act as a centre for information sharing, as a
source for solving industrial trouble shoots and
also to provide technical and analytical services
to many organizations in and around the centre.
  3. To train suitable manpower in the form of Ph. D,
Masters level courses and also for training
    already existing personnel in industries.

with other centres in the world and also to bring
the expertise and experience in this applied area
    to the Indian context

NATIONAL CENTRE FOR CATALYSIS RESEARCH
17
METHODOLOGY
  • The centre is established in tune with any of
the modern centres existing in most of the
advanced countries in the world. The activities
of the centre will be organized on a structured
pattern with service and excellence as motto.
  • The centre will carry out research in frontier
areas and will try to generate industrially
    relevant problems.
  • The centre will arrange and organize well
structured courses in industrial catalysis and
also fundamental catalysis and generate suitable
    manpower in this area

NATIONAL CENTRE FOR CATALYSIS RESEARCH
18
Outcome
  • India will have a centre for catalysis, an
    important frontier area of research
  • The centre will be the academic centre for
manpower development in this important area

  • The centre will also function as the window for
available technologies elsewhere and also will
provide technical and analytical back up for the
prospective catalysts to be obtained from other
    countries
  • The centre will carry out research on advanced
areas and thus will evolve as the nerve centre
for this area in this country

NATIONAL CENTRE FOR CATALYSIS RESEARCH
