10
The Bellingham Shoot
  • Game One was 3 vs. 3 Micro Soccer
  • Game Two 6 vs. 6 Mini-Soccer
  • Game Three - 11 vs. 11

11
The Bellingham Shoot
  • The eight year olds were in their third year of 6
    vs. 6 play.
  • That was the start-out format in Bellingham in
    those days.

12
The Bellingham Shoot
  • The fields used
  •
  • Micro Soccer 30 x 20 yards
  • 6 vs. 6 45 x 35 yards
  • 11 vs. 11 110 x 65 yards

13
The Bellingham Shoot
  • Each "touch" of the ball ? control, pass, shot,
dribble, catch, throw ? was counted.
  • The games were each 12-minutes long.

The Bellingham Shoot
15
The Bellingham Shoot
16
The Bellingham Shoot
  • These were my observations/evaluations at the
    time

17
The Bellingham Shoot
  • The quality of the kicking and passing was
superior in the 3 vs. 3 than 6 vs. 6.
  • The 6 vs. 6 was better than the 11 vs. 11.
  • Bigger numbers, bigger field, bigger aimless
boots of the ball, lots of One vs. Everyone
    dribbling.

18
The Bellingham Shoot
  • The number of contacts was dramatically more
evenly shared by players in the 3 vs.
  • 3 format than in either of the other two.
  • In fact, in the 6 vs. 6 and 11 vs. 11 some
players did not get a single kick.

19
The Bellingham Shoot
  • The Bad News!
  • The ball was out-of-play much more often in the 3
vs. 3 game than either of the other two formats
because of the size of the field.

20
The Bellingham Shoot
  • The Good News!
  • The advantage was play always restarted with a
    pass (goal-kick, corner, kick-off) or a throw-in
pass and nearly always, the player re-starting
was trying to find a team-mate.
