DISCUSSION ASSIGNMENTS
  • to be facilitated by Dr. Tsao or Dr. Bourque
    (see schedule)
  • mostly involve powerpoint presentations by
    teams of 2-4 students
  • week 1 review presentation format distribute
    team assignments and presentation topics
  • weeks 2,3 Dr. Tsao presentations
  • week 4 student presentations commence
  • Thursday sessions each have a theme (see
    schedule)
  • presentations to be evaluated to generate a
    portion of the grade
  • (to be discussed during first discussion
    session)
  • attendance required unexcused absences will
    result in zero on quiz

DISCUSSION QUIZZES
  • each discussion session will have a quiz at the
    end of the session with 2 questions worth 6
    points each
  • quizzes given at end of session based on that
    days presentation
  • 11 total quizzes with maximum of 10 per student
    (no quiz on day of presentation)
  • two lowest quiz grades dropped except grade of
    zero cannot be dropped for an unexcused absence

EXAMS
  • four 50-minute exams (see schedule)
  • exam 4 during final exam period
  • no exam grades dropped
  • exams to be taken at scheduled times
  • students unable to take exam as scheduled MUST
    contact Dr. Tischler prior to start of the exam
  • if absence is planned (e.g., an interview)
    documentation must be provided and Dr. Tischler
    advised as far in advance as possible
  • make-up exams will not be offered without
    acceptable documentation of an unavoidable
    absence

REGRADING
  • submission required within 3 class periods
    after exam returned
  • write regrade request on separate page attached
    to exam
  • explain why more points are deserved for a
    particular question
  • regrading will be done by instructor who wrote
    the question in consultation with TA who graded
    the question

CHEATING
  • students will be held responsible for the
    information concerning cheating in the policies
  • if clarification is required speak to the
    faculty within the first week

  • final grades expressed relative to total points
    accumulated in the course
  • Exams 100 points each 400 points maximum
  • Quizzes 12 points each 96 points maximum 2
    lowest grades dropped except for grades of zero
    due to unexcused absence
