Title: TAKS Practice, Day 4
1TAKS Practice, Day 4
- POE Is The Key
-
- Grid-In Questions are Bubbalicious
2Process of Elimination (POE)
- QUESTION What is Process of Elimination?
- ANSWER It is the process of marking out answer
choices you know to be incorrect so that you will
have less answers to choose from.
3Process of Elimination (POE)
- QUESTION When Should I Use Process of
Elimination? - ANSWER When you have little or no idea how to do
a problem. Youre going to be guessing anyway
you might as well guess intelligently. Dont use
POE if you already know how to do a problem just
do the problem!
4Process of Elimination (POE)
- Most of the questions you will encounter on the
TAKS test are multiple choice questions. Since
there are only four answer choices, your chances
of getting a question right simply by guessing
are 1 in 4, or 25. - Who wants a 25 on a test???
5Process of Elimination (POE)
- If you are able to eliminate even one answer
choice, your odds of getting the question right
by guessing from the remaining answer choices
goes up to 1 in 3, or 33. - Thats not great, but its a whole lot better
than a grade of 25!
6Process of Elimination (POE)
- If you are fortunate and able to eliminate two
wrong answer choices, your odds of getting a
question right go up to 1 in 2, or 50. - Wouldnt you like to be able to get half your
guesses right?
7Process of Elimination (POE)
- QUESTION How Do I Know What Answer Choices to
Eliminate? - ANSWER Make educated guesses. For example, if
the problem refers to a graph of a line and asks
about its slope, look at the graph. If the line
goes up, any negative answers can be eliminated.
8Process of Elimination (POE)
- QUESTION What if I am not sure if I should
eliminate an answer? - ANSWER Then dont eliminate that answer!! Only
eliminate answers you are certain are wrong. For
example, if you are trying to find the area of a
rug, make your best guess at what the area of the
rug could be. Ballpark it. If there is an
answer choice that is much smaller or much bigger
than your guess, then you can safely eliminate
that answer because you are certain it is wrong.
Dont eliminate answers that are close to your
guess because you are not certain they are wrong.
9But what about the ones that dont have answer
choices??
10Grid-In Questions
- QUESTION Once Ive got an answer for these
questions, how do I bubble it in? - ANSWER By using what you know about place value.
There is a decimal point provided on your grid.
Just line up according to that!
11Grid-In Questions
Try to find an answer before proceeding to the
next slide.
12Grid-In Questions
Notice that the answer is written on the line and
bubbled in beneath that. Your written-in answers
will NOT be graded. ONLY the BUBBLED part will
be graded. You should write in your answers as
well as bubbling because it is easier for you to
look at a number when you go back through the
test to check your answers.

13Grid-In Questions
- QUESTION What if I dont know how to do a
grid-in problem? - ANSWER Guess anyway! There is no penalty for
guessing, and who knows, you could get it right!
