Front-End Solution Challenges
  • Providers
  • Continue to demand increased response time
  • Need solution that facilitates consistency of
    data content and format
  • Unclear ROI due to
  • Lack of consistent transaction volume
  • Lack of implementation with fully-automated
revenue cycle solutions (vs. manual processes)
  • Payers
  • Level of HIPAA compliance can vary greatly by
type of transaction (ERAs vs. claims status)
  • Increased preference for direct connection to
    provider
  • Timeframe may lengthen due to
  • Processing new legal agreement
  • Development upgrades between Payer and Passport
    systems
  • Potential need to create user interface with
    provider

6
Passport Growth
  • Though quantitative ROI may be difficult to
    identify, Passport continues to witness
significant annual growth of direct payer
connections and business partner agreements with
    providers
  • Passport works with 837, 835, 270/271, 276/277
and 278 (Referral and Prior Auth) transactions in
    addition to many non-mandated healthcare
    transactions
  • Payer organizations include
  • Top U.S. commercial payers Aetna, CIGNA,
    WellPoint, Anthem, Humana, PacifiCare, TriCare
    and UnitedHealthcare
  • 26 Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans (including
    Wisconsin)
  • 40 state Medicaid databases (including Wisconsin)
  • Major regional and statewide MCOs
  • Medicare on a nationwide basis (Part A and B)
  • Providers continued growth of business partner
    agreements
  • 2004 161 hospitals/280 non-hospitals
  • 2005 (to date) 238 hospitals/284 non-hospitals

Provider Focus Remains on Improving Patient Care
  • Three primary cost drivers for hospitals
  • Purchasing
  • Staffing
  • Reimbursement
  • 4 phases of revenue cycle patient access,
    eligibility verification, prepare and send
claims, incur payment or manage denials and
    appeals
  • Passport offers 6 major product lines across all
    cycle phases
  • Expect to launch a new financial services product
and appeals management product in 2006
  • Increasing reimbursement and staffing
    efficiencies translates into greater resources
available for improving patient care the
historic and future focus for all successful
    healthcare providers

Passports core benefits!!

Passports Front-End Solution OneSource
  • Internet browser-based system (no required
    software or hardware installation)
  • Functionality includes
  • Eligibility verification
  • Referral submission and authorization
  • Address verification
  • HCPCS, ICD-9 and CPT online coding books
  • Financial services
  • Credit checking and scoring
  • Credit card payments
  • Cash tracking
  • E-checking (coming in January)
  • Detailed ROI (e.g., number of staffing hours
saved per month) can be difficult to obtain as
the data resides with the provider
  • Currently creating case studies on two providers
using multiple product lines and expect to
publish in 4Q. Will include quantitative ROI as
    well as anecdotal input

National Provider Identifier (NPI)
  • Provider preparation for NPI
  • Watch for information from health plans on
implementation/testing of NPIs in claims, and
    eventually other standard transactions
  • Check with billing services, vendors and
clearinghouses about NPI compliance and what you
need to do to facilitate the process
  • Review laws in your state to determine any
conflicts or supplements to NPI. For examples
some states require NPI to be used on paper
    claims
  • Passport preparation for NPI
  • Passports process will be even more simplified
by NPI Implementation as we currently have to
collect various numbers for each provider. This
unique identifier will enable us to direct the
providers to payers they need even faster
  • HIPAA-covered entities such as providers,
clearinghouses and large health plans must use
only the NPI to identify providers by May 23,
    2007
