Title: Handheld Bluetooth Networking

Handheld Bluetooth Networking
2
wireless networking anytime, anyplace.
  •   Handheld
  • Any computing device that is small enough to fit
in the user's hand, which include palm-sized
    PCs, PDAs, Smartphones, Smart Pagers.
  • Bluetooth
  • A short-range wireless connectivity solution.
Bluetooth technology operates in the 2.4-GHz
    range providing short-range (10 cm to 10m)
communication between devices such as personal
computers (PCs), cellular phones, Handhelds and
digital cameras without the use of cables.

3
handheld operating systems
  • The operating system is the basic interface and
language that enables you to operate the device.
Microsoft makes a scaled version of its Windows
operating system for Pocket PCs called Windows
CE, while Palm devices have their own operating
system called Palm OS and Linux has recently
    unveiled Desktop/LX Pocket PC Edition (DL-PPC) .
  • If possible, choose a device with an operating
system that youre familiar with. Pocket PCs are
a good choice if you are already familiar with a
Microsoft Windows Environment on your PC.
  • Consider the application youll want to use. For
example, if you plan to simply use your handheld
device as an address book, calendar, etc., any
device can probably do the trick but if you want
to run word processing and other applications,
youll need an operating system such as Windows
    CE that can handle it.
  • Consider the devices youll be using in
conjunction with your PDA/handheld. For example,
Windows CE only works with Windows PCs.
  • Consider the associated overhead of an operating
system. Some may require or consume more memory
and others may adversely affect battery life.
