What is Jump Rope For Heart?
  • JRFH is the British Heart Foundations (BHF)
    popular educational fundraising programme.
  • It started in 1987 and since then over 30,000
    schools have registered and helped raise more
    than 3.5 million for the schools involved and
    over 11million for the BHF life-saving work.
  • JRFH provides schools with a ready made exercise
    programme, a fantastic FREE resource pack and the
    opportunity to raise money for the school as
    well.
  • The total money raised is divided 20 is
    retained by the school to spend whoever it likes
    and 80 goes to the BHF to fund its life-saving
    work.

Why Skipping?
  • Skipping is a healthy, fun and challenging
    aerobic activity that is great for developing the
    cardio-vascular system.
  • Its non-competitive, so everyone can
    participate.
  • Its also good for developing

  • Schools receive a FREE JRFH organisers kit,
    worth over 100, containing
  • 31 skipping ropes in lengths of our choice
  • 2 Double Dutch ropes

  • Jump Off Manual (a step-by-step guide
  • to holding a successful event)
  • Skipping Skills DVD created to make it even
  • easier for teachers to introduce skipping at
    their schools

How does this great scheme benefit schools?
  • JRFH encourages a whole school approach to the
    promotion of physical activity.
  • JRFH fits into the National Curriculum for
    Physical Education.
  • JRFH can contribute to the achievement of Healthy
    Schools Award, Activemark, Sportsmark and Sports
    Partnership awards.
  • Teachers have an exercise routine that is easy
    to organise plus a comprehensive teachers pack.
  • Skipping at break times can contribute to the
    recommended one hour a day of moderate intensity
    physical activity for children and young people.
  • Optional FREE in-service training for staff.
  • The school retains 20 of funds raised.

The Jump Off
  • This is the culminating activity of a progressive
  • series of skipping lessons.
  • It can involve one class or the whole school
  • and teachers and parents!
  • Some schools incorporate the event into a
  • health week or festival or sports day.
  • Most schools hold it in the summer term so
  • that it can be outdoors.
  • Some schools hold the event on Valentines day.
  • The bigger the event the more the school will
    benefit financially.

Where does the money raised go?
  • 20 of the money raised is kept by the school to
    spend however it wants.
  • 80 of the money raised goes to fund the BHFs
    life-saving work.
  • Heart disease touches us all.
  • Every 2 minutes somebody has a heart attack.
    Heart and circulatory disease is the UKs biggest
    killer.
  • As the nations heart charity, the BHF focuses on
    three things
  • Investing in pioneering research
  • Supporting and caring for heart patients
  • Providing vital information to help people reduce
    their own risk of heart or circulatory related
    illness
  • The BHF urgently needs your help. Together we can
    beat heart disease.

Optional JRFH Workshops
  • Over 2,000 teachers a year attend FREE JRFH
    workshops that are held in nationwide locations.
  • Workshops usually last two hours and are
    practical sessions designed around the National
    Curriculum.
  • They aim to provide you with ideas and
    inspiration so you are confident teaching
    skipping in school.
  • A chance to have a go at skipping skills in a
    relaxed environment.
  • Includes an introduction to individual skipping
    skills, group and partner work, and information
    about the JRFH programme.
  • Best of all they are great fun!
