3
ORIONplus IR Detector Whats new?
  • More IR sensor options
  • More toxic sensors options
  • New communication software
  • Instrument also available without IR sensor

4
ORIONplus IR Detector How does it work?
  • Our dual-beam IR sensor
  • Does NOT detect H2!!

Detector measures the energy not absorbedby
target gas at a specific wave length.
The sapphire window protects the source and
detector against corrosive gases (Cl2, NH3,
etc.).
The source emits energy which is measured by the
detector.
5
The need for IR CO2
  • CO2 measurement by O2 displacement? The answer is
    NO!
  • Facts
  • CO2 is heavier than oxygen
  • TWA value CO2 5000 ppm (0.5 Vol)
  • 0.5 CO2 0.1 O2 displacement (20.8 of Air)
  • O2 alarm 19.5
  • 20.8 - 19.5 1.3 O2 100/20.8 6.2 Air
  • 19.5 O2 6.2 CO2 ( 62,000 ppm)
  • When O2 alarm triggers, CO2 concentration can be
lethal (gt62,000 ppm) in the breathing zone!

6
Effects of CO2
Effects of CO2

veins and brain Paralyzing effect as if curare

7
The need for IR LEL or IR Vol
  • Crude Oil
  • Heavier hydrocarbons (HCs) in inert atmosphere
  • Difficult to detect with catalytic sensor
  • (Petro-) Chemical Industries
  • Comb. gases in presence of high conc. H2S
  • HCs
  • Welding cutting pipelines (N2 purging)
  • Shipping
  • General HCs (cargo inertization with CO2)
  • Fiberglass cabling
  • Combustible gases in presence of silicones,
    silicates (poisoning)

9
Why IR? IR versus Catalytic Combustion
  • More expensive but offers
  • Faster response time
  • More specific
  • Reduced risk of sensor poisoning
  • Will also detect in inert atmospheres
  • Choice of up to 100 Vol readout
  • Increased sensor life
  • Less maintenance

10

  • Not recommended for sampling of reactive gases
    (Cl2, NH3, O3 etc.).
  • Other lengths sampling line (PU) without probe
are available for non-reactive gases (604018).

13
ORIONplus IR Detector Pump
  • Available only in pumped version
  • Pump is controlled by PermaCheck doesnt stop
    every 15 sec!
  • Data logging software standard
  • (not the JetEye)
  • Service training highly recommended to operate
    service software

14
ORIONplus IR Detector Features Financial
  • How does it compare???
  • Very Competitively priced
  • Better performance
  • Modular design easy to maintain
  • Excellent for special applications
  • Inert atmospheres for specific gases

15
ORIONplus IR Detector Features Maintenance
  • Easy 3-button operation
  • Modular design can be upgraded later
  • Firmware sensors
  • Setup mode password-protected
  • Messages in clear text
  • Icons with online - help

16
ORIONplus IR Detector PC - Software
  • New Software!
  • Not compatible with existing Orionplus software
    or FivStarLink
  • Appearance and operation conforms to Windows
    navigation
  • All gases can be displayed in Excel, together or
    per channel
  • Configurable by the user, including sensor setup
    (training recommended).

17
ORIONplus IR Detector Accessories
  • Leather and rubber boots
  • Sampling lines and probes
  • Charger Cradle
  • Calibration gases

18
ORIONplus IR Detector Accessories
  • Sampling lines and probes
  • Not compatible with Orion Multigas Detector, due
    to different fitting
  • New 5 PTFE line probe
  • Other lengths PU only (604018)

19
ORIONplus IR Detector FAQs
  • How many Echem sensors can be installed?
  • 2 toxic gas sensors and 1 oxygen sensor
  • Can the user change the sensors?
  • Yes, with the new ORIONplus Link software MSA
    service training is highly recommended!
  • Can the Galaxy Test System be used?
  • Not for now, for various reasons (fitting,
    software, corrosive gases, etc.)

20
ORIONplus IR Detector more FAQs
  • Can an exotic sensor or IR LEL be installed in
    the existing ORIONplus?
  • No, too cumbersome and costly
  • Why is the IR sensor different?
  • Protects the lamp and sensor against corrosive
gases (sapphire window). Life time of IR sensor
    will decrease dramatically without this
    protection
  • Why is the inlet changed?
  • Current inlet reacts with corrosive gases

21
ORIONplus IR Detector more FAQs
  • Will the IR LEL detect Hydrogen?
  • No, H2 is invisible to IR light (no absorption)
  • Can the 20L response factors be applied on the IR
    sensor?
  • No, the IR technology works differently, is more
    specific to the gas
  • Why would I need 50 Vol CO2??
  • This is mainly used in the process industry
