Title: RUN WITH PERSEVERANCE

1
RUN WITH PERSEVERANCE
  • HEBREWS 12

2
The Christian Race 1-3
  • Since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of
    witnesses
  • Let us throw off everything that hinders
  • And the sin that so easily entangles
  • Let us run with perseverance
  • The race marked out for us
  • Let us fix out eyes on Jesus
  • The author and perfecter of our faith
  • Who for the joy set before him endured the cross
  • Scorning its shame

3
The race
  • And sat down at the right hand of the throne of
    God.
  • Consider him who endured such opposition from
    sinful men
  • So you wont grow weary and lose heart
  • In your struggle against sin, you have not yet
resisted to the point of shedding your blood.
  • You have forgotten the word of encouragement that
    addresses you - sons

4
Word of encouragement 5-13
  • My son, do not make light of the Lords
    discipline,
  • And do not lose heart when he rebukes you.
  • Because the Lord disciplines those he loves
  • And he purifies everyone he accepts as a son
  • Endure hardship as discipline
  • God is treating you as sons
  • What son isnt disciplined by his father?

5
Discipline
  • If you arent disciplined, then you are
illegitimate children and not true sons.
  • We respect human fathers when they discipline us
    imperfectly.
  • How much more should we submit to the father of
spirits and live? His discipline is for our
good, that we may share His holiness.
  • It doesnt seem good, but painful
  • Later it produces righteousness and peace.

6
Therefore
  • Strengthen your feeble arms and weak knees
  • Make level paths for your feet, so that the lame
may not be disabled, but rather be healed.

7
LISTEN TO GOD 14-21
  • Make every effort to live in peace with all
  • And to be holy, without it no one will see the
    Lord.
  • See to it that no one misses Gods grace.
  • And that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble
    and defile man.
  • See that no one is sexually immoral or godless
like Esau who for a single meal sold his
inheritance rights as the oldest son.

8
Esau
  • Afterward, he wanted to inherit the blessing, but
    he was rejected.
  • He could bring about no change of mind, though he
    sought it with tears.
  • You havent come to a mountain that can be
touched, burning with fire, darkness, gloom and
storm, to trumpet blast or such a voice speaking
that people begged for it to stop.
  • They couldnt bear what was commanded. Even Moses
    trembled with fear.

9
The Kingdom that cant be shaken 22-29
  • Youve come to Mount Zion, to the heavenly
Jerusalem, the city of God, to thousands upon
    thousands of angels.
  • You have come to the joyful assembly and to the
    church of the firstborn,
  • Whose names are written in heaven
  • You have come to God, the judge of all, to the
spirits of righteous men made perfect, to Jesus
the mediator of the New Covenant and to the
    sprinkled blood.

10
Listen up
  • Dont refuse Him who speaks
  • They didnt escape who refused him who warned
    from earth.
  • How much more will we not escape if we turn away
from him who warns us from heaven.
  • The voice then shook the earth.
  • But now the promise, Yet once more signifies
the removal of things shaken created things- so
    what cannot be shaken remains.

11
Therefore
  • Since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be
    shaken,
  • Let us be thankful
  • And so worship God acceptably
  • With reverence and awe
  • For our God is a consuming fire.
