He biked to work and had a 450 car that his son,
niece and nephew helped to paint.
When faced with a pay cut, he said You know, we
make too much money anyway the money we make
should go to nurses, firemen and police.
10Kevin Smith
He loved being in uniform and was born to
serve.
First he was a Boy Scout
Then he was a Marine
Then he became a Firefighter.
5 of his 8 children inherited his steely notion
of service - they are service members and police
officers.
11Dianne Bullis Snyder
Dianne made things happen. She worked her way
through college by waiting on tables. Her dream
was to teach disabled children.
When leaving town for work, Dianne would post
life lessons on her childrens doors - Dont
wait for a tragedy, say it today and I love
you and Im glad youre alive.
12Sean Beverly Eckhart
Sean was a great person who had an offbeat sense
of humor and a love for life.
Sean Bev were high school sweethearts and
deeply in love. It was rare to see one without
the other.
Sean was 50 years old when he died in one of the
Twin Tower attacks. Moments before the tower
collapsed, he said goodbye to Bev on his cell
phone.
Seans cousin is DFAS contractor, Michelle
McAndrews

After Seans death, Bev became an activist and
advocate for 9/11 Families.
Bev was on the 9/11 Commission and the word
tireless was often used to describe her work
ethic.
Bev passed away in February 2009 when her plane
crash-landed in Buffalo, NY. She was traveling
to celebrate Seans birthday with his family and
friends.
14Nichola Thorpea
Nichola was quiet and always in her schoolwork.
She was an accountant and a Michael Jackson fan.
Nichola was a loving sister and aunt. When her
nieces and nephews passed school exams, she would
reward them with a night at the movies.
15Thomas Patrick Knox
Tommy would put toothpaste on his wifes
toothbrush every morning when he woke up before
her (which was most days).
He wore grotesque false teeth at weddings and
parties to make people laugh.
It was the little things with Tommy.
Those special, little things that he did
made those around him love him so
dearly.
16Suzanne Kondratenko
Suzanne was the 3rd of 8 daughters born over 23
years.
She had a sweet spot for her youngest sister,
Paige, who has Down Syndrome. Before her death,
Suzanne was able to see Paige walk for the first
time at the age of 8.
Paige and Suzanne had many similarities,
including a silly sense of humor and a love of
books.

Mario was an EMT who loved his job.
He doted on his 3 year old daughter.
He was a basketball coach at his church.
What did Mario love even more than these 3 things?
Mario loved having a great meal with his friends
and loved ones. For the rest of my life, I will
want Mario to come home for a meal, says Marios
widow, Just one more meal, thats all.
18Mohammed Salman Hamdani
Mohammed was an American citizen who was born in
Pakistan. As a child, his greatest desire was to
be seen as an all-American kid.
Mohammed disappeared on 9/11. Ugly rumors spread
that he was connected to the terrorist group.
Months later the truth came out. Mohammeds
remains were found near the north tower he had
gone there to help people he didnt even know.
19SFC Frank Sanders
After the 9/11 attacks, Sanders deployed to Iraq.
While there, he was shot in his left shoulder,
left hand, and an IED explosion damaged the left
side of his face.
Frank is alive and still serving his country in
the U.S. Army.
SFC Sanders is always the same - steady as a
rock. Even in the hospital he was upbeat and
positive.
Franks brother is DFAS employee, J.W. Sanders
