14TNO Security Evaluation
LETTER FROM DRS R. TADEMA WIELANDT DIVISION
MANAGER TNO EIB
- Control logic and the processor core with the
common data bus are comprised in the glue logic
of the deviceand can therefore not be located. - The presence of a built-in asynchronous clock
makes analysis in principle more difficult.
The signal contains too much noise to perform
DPA. - Manipulation of the supply voltage to influence
normal operation of the chip did not lead to
undesired behavior. - No possibilities have been found for external
manipulation of the chip in such a way, that the
internally stored information can be read out or
manipulated from the outside. - The use of non-volatile memory for storage of
the application program prevents an attack by
optical ROM analysis. - From the investigation it can be concluded that
security has been one of the primary design
goals.
15Security Certification Plan
- Certification for next generation products
- In coordination with ISO 9001 certification
- Common Criteria Certification to EAL4/5
- Working with independent software provider
- Hardware evaluation plus environment
- EMV certification
- Hardware evaluation focus
- Required for most financial applications

- SwiftSim chip-card programmer
18Competitive Advantages
- Emosyn using high density Flash memory cell
- Flash EEPROM is half the size of conventional
EEPROM cell - Flash OTP is a quarter the size of EEPROM and
approximately the same size as masked ROM - Our products shorten our customers time to
market - Rania tools allow real-time development, instant
samples - Cost effective production for small volumes
- Manufacturing cycles shortened, in-field upgrades
- Theseus architecture lowers cost of ownership
- One Theseus chip can replace 10 12 masked ROM
chips - Flash technology provides higher security
- Information stored electrically instead of
physically - Masked ROM is a 30 year old technology
- High performance product
- Fastest processor in smart card market
19Theseus Platinum Introduction
