Title: MSC Trophy Christine Hinson

MSC Trophy Christine Hinson
  • This year we have a new award, the MSC trophy,
presented to the school by the MSC order in
recognition of the partnership between the order
    and Nicholas Breakspear School.
  • The aims of the MSC order is to show the heart
of Christ to those around us. The trophy
recognises the contribution of a student who
reflects this by showing the heart of Christ to
    those in our school community.
  • As part of the prize the MSC order will make a
contribution to a charity of the winners choice
and this will be matched with funds from a non
uniform day here at Nicholas Breakspear.
  • To pick one student for this award has been
extremely difficult. Many of our students were
nominated, however one student stood out. Her
kindness and compassion quietly shone through
from year 7 right up to year 13. Without wanting
to embarrass our winner here are just a few
examples of thoughtfulness and caring nature.
Without fuss and in total humility she gave
freely of her time in the service of others. Many
departments in the school benefited from her
service. Before school our winner would often be
found assisting year 7 students with paired
reading. She would also take an active role in
the RE department by helping with preparation of
    liturgies.

  • Other departments to benefit from her help
include the Geography department, where she gave
one of her study periods to assist with a Key
Stage 3 lesson the MFL department where free
option periods were used to give key stage three
students the opportunity to develop oral skills.
Outside of her contributions to key stage three
lessons the student body recognised the
leadership skills of our winner by electing her
head girl. As part of the head girl / boy team
she was able to express the needs of the student
body with clarity and understanding. Her opinions
were sought and valued by staff. Following
student panel interviews she gave well thought
out, insightful and sound feedback to governors
    and senior staff.
  • Many others in our wider community have
benefited from her commitment to serve. During
her time in the sixth form, twice she volunteered
to be one of our school group of Redcap helpers
on the Westminster Diocesan Pilgrimage to
Lourdes. To see her working with the sick and
disabled pilgrims who were in her care was a real
pleasure. She had a gentle, caring approach was
always friendly and enthusiastic and she always
put others before herself. Even at the end of the
week in Lourdes, when everyone was exhausted, she
always had a smile on her face and was willing to
go the extra mile in serving others. She really
was a credit to herself, her family and her
    school.
  • There is so much more one could say about our
worthy prize winner. The winner of
  • The inaugural MSC trophy is Christine Hinson.
