MAPPING WARREN COLLEGE This following network
within Warren College is a graphical
interpretation of the two ASCII files on the
right. These files are the database files used
by the route-preview program.
ABSTRACT First responders to a disaster
situation may saturate their sense of vision with
real-time information or may have their
functional vision reduced in a smoky environment.
These responders also must stay on track while
following a route on foot despite distraction and
disorientation. Existing technology describes a
GIS database such as the layout of city streets
via audio cues. A high density of way points and
the low reliability of GIS data make the
presentation of GIS data via audio cues difficult
to understand. Thus, this software holds the
promise of a clearer presentation of this data.
Assuming that the first responder relies
on his own senses for collision avoidance and
personal safety, this software assists a first
responder in both maintaining orientation and
following a pre-defined route. The software
allows marking favorite way points and paths. It
also supports presenting way points via an audio
description in a meaningful way. The softwares
user interface (UI) models the UI of a cell phone
application. It follows that inputs be entered
using the digits 0 through 9 and information be
conveyed to the user as with a standard phone
menu.

MOTIVATION FOR ROUTE-PREVIEW First responders to
a disaster situation may saturate their sense of
vision with real-time information or may have
their functional vision reduced in a smoky
environment. Thus, efficient user-interface
design is important for 1) ease of use
2) cell phone using detailed detection
algorithms in noisy environment 3) stay on
course despite visually distracted
4) audio output and numerical input
ROUTE-PREVIEW FEATURES The program not only
allow user to traverse through the network, other
features include 1) Define a new path 2)
Saving favorite way points and paths for future
use 3) Deletion of favorite way points and
path 4) Segmentation of straight and curve
sections of a path
SAMPLE OUTPUT
INTERSECTING PATHS Supposed you are given a list
of path that meet at an intersection, listing
each path in clockwise ordering by direction
provides 1) an effective audio description
of a 2-D network. 2) a more clarity for first
responder and assist in orientation 3) a
mirroring of the physical world
