Title: Faeries, Goblins and Super Heroes
1Faeries, Goblins and Super Heroes
Ah, Faeries, Goblins and Super Heroes! The
stuff of our childhood fantasies.
First, decide which you shall be. And guys, its
OK to be a fairy. Just think of Lord of the Rings
the fairies were toughest among them!
Now, go to the Internet, or check out a book from
the library, and find a good picture. Ø Images
should be chosen with an eye for color, value,
contrast, textures, repetition, unity,
proportion, and other elements and principles of
design unity of color theme being very
important.
2Ø Use a digital camera to take a picture of your
face in the same posture as that in the picture
(profile, half-turned, full front...) or scan a
picture of yourself that is appropriate
Ø Insert the downloaded character picture into
program and remove the face of the character by
erasing. You will probably need to zoom in for
detailed erasing. Leave the characters hair or
head covering. Masks might be cut and saved for
later cloning onto your face.
3Ø Open your photograph in the program and edit it
so you will be able to fit it in as the
characters face. This will require cropping and
erasing details around the face such as hair,
leaving only parts necessary for the character
image. Eg. Some will need to delete your neck,
others wont.
Ø Editing the color hue of your face is also
important. You need to match the color of the
original character and the pictures color theme
as closely as possible to make your face seem to
fit the scene.
4Ø Remove any background of the image with the
eraser or erase by color tool if available and
appropriate.
5Ø Use cutting or copying to select portions of
the picture to which you will apply different
textures. In PhotoDraw you will cut by drawing or
cut by edge finder. Remove the backgrounds by
erasing or erasing by color.
6 Ø Format-Background and change to transparent.
Save each element that you have cut as a
separate file if you need it later. Save as a gif
to preserve the transparency. Ø Apply textures
to the different objects to create depth,
emphasis, contrast, repetition, or other
principles of design.
7Ø Place the textured image parts back onto the
original by using copy and paste. Group when
ready.
8Ø Return to the pictures of image parts that
would move in a simple animation, such as wings
or capes. Apply another effect or a hue/color
change to create contrast. Save these images
parts, with transparent backgrounds, as separate
files for a future animation of this scene.
9Ø Go to the Internet again for a background. This
should be chosen as a strong contrast to the
character image in either theme or color or both.
Look for backgrounds that also supply elements
and principles of design such as contrast, line,
proportion, repetition, harmony, value,and so
forth.
10Ø Insert this picture into the program and place
it behind the character picture, or place it as a
background if it needs no editing.
11 Ø Situate your character or picture elements
to represent the rule of thirds, golden
rectangle, or off-center.
Ø Crop as needed and group as needed. Ø Save as
jpg or gif depending on need.
