The 5th Years learn how to use the following
tools safely and correctly

• Saw
• Rasp
• Chisel

When the children have experimented with these
tools and learnt how to use them correctly and
safely they are given their first block to work
on.
The block has to be divided into three equal
sections. We use a little bit of maths to help
us do this!

They then use a different tool in each section.
Rasp
The children experiment directly on the wood and
make design decisions as they go along.
Saw and Chisel
Saw
They are taught how to keep their designs
interesting and varied, yet simple.
