2Initiative Objectives
- Align relationships and work of the auxiliaries,
boards, commissions, ministries, and
independently incorporated entities - Improve communication, coordination, and
collaboration in planning and implementation - Become more effective, responsive and efficient
to meet the needs of our members and to advance
the cause of Jesus Christ in the 21st century and
beyond.
3Initiative History
- Continuation of the Conventions VISA principles,
Vision, Integrity, Structure and Accountability - Recommendations presented in the Ecumenical
Journey report that were approved during the 2007
Annual Session - Consensus of Convention leadership who met in
Nashville August 20-21, 2008 and - Recommendations of the Re-alignment Committee
presented during the 2009 Mid Winter Board
Session in Nashville.
4Convention Mission
As a convention we aim to strive continually to
live up to the mission and purpose for objectives
of this great body as indicated below (taken from
the Revised Constitution, 2002) The mission of
the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc. is to
fulfill the Great Commission of Jesus Christ
through preaching, teaching, and healing.
5Convention Objectives Corporate Purposes
- To unite National Baptist churches, district
associations, and state conventions in Christian
evangelism so as to fulfill the Great Commission
of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ through
preaching, teaching, and healing - To promote home and foreign mission efforts
- To encourage and support Christian education

- To publish and distribute Sunday School and other
Christian literature, music, and other works of
art and religious expression and - To engage in any other endeavors deemed fitting
and proper in order to advance the cause of Jesus
Christ throughout the world.
7Accountability
- The Convention should be accountable to the
churches first and foremost. All that we do
should enable the local church to do more and a
better job of preaching, teaching and healing in
its alliance with the National Baptist

8Initiative Leadership Structure
- All National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc.
Auxiliaries, Ministries, Commissions, Boards and
Independently Incorporated Entities - Advisory Committee Coordinates Planning
Implementation of the Initiative under the
leadership of the President of the Convention. - Councils Representative groups of Convention
leaders that communicate, coordinate and
collaborate on six (6) major areas of services

- Everyone has their own home or place in the
Convention structure and yet we recognize that
were also members of a larger community. As we
learn to work together more collaboratively, we
can become more effective ambassadors for the
Great Commission. - The Committee

- Identifies the guidelines, resources best
practices related to the work and management of
our churches, including (but not limited to)
areas such as - Church policy and polity
- Support for pastors and clergy leaders
- Worship
- Lay leaders
- Church school
- Church-based ministries
- District associations
- State conventions
12Global Missions
- Coordinates, models and resources on global,
national and local levels the best practices of
mission including areas such as - Church planting
- Evangelism
- Chaplaincy
- Interdenominational and interfaith relationships
partnerships - Outreach programs and community organizing
- Public policy
- Church-based community service programs, i.e.,
family development, environmental stewardship
13Education, Training Certification
- Identifies ways the auxiliaries and entities of
the Convention might re-vision a process for
biblical studies and theological education for
the constituent churches, associations and State
Congresses that - Meets the training and certification needs of
instructors - Provides a process for the certification of
curriculum and classes
14Stewardship, Management Budget
- Establishes and enforces standards and procedures
for integrity in fiscal planning, resource
utilization and management in all areas of the
Conventions work, including but not limited to - Strategic planning
- Budgets
- Membership development
- Conventions meetings
- Human resources
15Communications, Marketing Technology
- Coordinates the communication activities of the
Convention with a focus on consistency in quality
and message, timeliness and accessibility - Serves as a resource to the Convention for
research and development activities - Establishes technology standards and policies to
maintain currency and increase our effectiveness
in achieving our goals
16Media Publications
- Establishes the media production standards
- Coordinates and oversees schedules for Convention
publications (official documents, conventions
meetings, magazines/journals, etc.) - Facilitates the development, production, sales
and distribution of National Baptist Convention
literature, music and other works of art and
religious expression
