Introduction

• Current IGMP Proxying draft only addresses proxy
  behavior for same version IGMP Proxying, e.g. v2
  to v2, v3 to v3.
• Some scenarios that upstream network and
  downstream networks perform different version of
  IGMP
• Proxy can perform mixed version IGMP Proxying in
  these scenarios

4 Mixed Version Proxying Scenarios

• v3 to v2 upstream network performs IGMPv2,
  downstream networks perform IGMPv3
• v2 to v3 upstream network performs IGMPv3,
  downstream networks perform IGMPv2
• mixed to v2 upstream network performs v2, both
  v2 and v3 downstream networks
• mixed to v3 upstream network performs v3, both
  v2 and v3 downstream networks

IGMPv3 to IGMPv2 Proxying

• Proxy performs v2 host portion on upstream link,
  v3 router portion on downstream links
• Downstream v3 subscriptions are converted to v2
  subscriptions
• Changes are reported on upstream link if v2 state
  change is required
• v3 subscriptions are used to forward packets

SSM Considerations

• v3 to v2 as in SSM draft
• Proxy MAY have a configuration to send SSM
  subscriptions upstream
• SSM subscriptions MAY be processed by an router
  that still processes SSM reports

• v2 to v3
• Proxy SHOULD/MUST drop IGMPv2 subscriptions in
  SSM range
• Proxy MAY have a configuration to turn IGMPv2
  subscriptions into IGMPv3 subscriptions by
  pairing a source address

• Mixed downstream to v2 or v3 upstream
• Proxy May have the same configuration as in v3/v2
  to v2/v3
• SSM packets MAY be configured to forward to
  IGMPv2 interfaces
