For students entering Grade 10 in September..
2The Organization of Courses
3Things to consider for course selection..
You must choose a total of 8 courses, including 5
compulsory courses6 compulsory for Immersion
And 3 additional courses2 additional courses for
Immersion students Consider the following when
selecting additional courses
4Things to consider for course selection..
- How many remaining COMPULSORY credits you
require? - Consider the next course in a subject you are
enjoying. - Consider Gr. 11 credits that do not have Gr. 10
prerequisites e.g. Healthy Active Living,
Photography, Business, Family Studies. Refer to
the On-line Program Book and flow charts for each
subject area. Grade 10 students are allowed in
those courses if spots are available.

Civics CHV2OO Careers GLC2OO Music
Computers AMM3MO These courses are offered online
and may be taken as a 9th credit provided you did
not take 9 credits in a previous year. Students
should take the Suitability Quiz for online
learning found on Page 10 of the On-line Program
Book before selecting an online course.
Information regarding these courses can be found
on Page 9 of the On-line Program Book.
6Credit Counselling Summary Info
- Go to the Nelson Homepage http//nel.hdsb.ca to
get your Credit Counselling Summary. Click on
the link Option Sheet Process 2009-2010. Print
off your Credit Counselling Summary from the link
inside. You will need your Student Number and
Date of Birth to get your Credit Counselling
Summary. - All of your completed credits from Semester 1
will show. - Pay close attention to any compulsory courses you
may have missed. You should be planning Summer
School or putting them on next years course
selections. - Any Community Involvement Hours you have
submitted to Mrs. Pemberton, should show on the
summary.

- This year you will not receive a Program Booklet.
Instead, you will access the Grade 10-12 Program
Booklet online. - Go to the Nelson Homepage http//nel.hdsb.ca
and click on the link Option Sheet Process
2009-2010 - Then, click on the link to Online Program of
Study Books, Grade 10-12 Program of Study
Booklet.

- Credit Counselling Summary (which you will print
off from the Nelson homepage at

9Access via www.myblueprint.ca or the Nelson High

10Use High School Planner as your virtual Annual
Education Planner.
11Create a new planthen add your optional courses
either as a long range plan or as you complete
them.

Sheet Process 2009-2010
14Student Course Requests
Print off your Credit Counselling Summary. You
need your 9 digit Halton Student Number and your
date of birth.. Printing works best with I.E. 7,
Firefox or by setting margins to smallest
available..

- Check the Option Sheet timelines and other
pertinent course selection information for
specific grades.. - Use the planning template on the back of your
Grade Specific Course Selection Information
Sheet. - You are ready to go online and select courses..
16You will see the Login screen
You will see the Login screen
To login, type your 9-digit student number,
using all 0s(no hyphens) in the Student Number
box, then type your password in the Password
box and click Submit. If this is your first
time logging in, your password will be opt.
17 Your first time logging on, you will have to
change your password from opt to one of your
liking. You will be directed to this screen
where you will be prompted to change your
password.
18 In the first box type in your 9 digit student
number. Be sure to include all 0s. Type in
your old password in the Old Password box.
Type your password in Type New Password box,
then type the same password in the Confirm New
Password box. Click on the Submit button. If
all this information was typed correctly you will
be directed to the login screen (see step 2). If
you have changed your password from opt to one
that you have picked, and forget what it was,
contact Student Services to reset your password.
After a successful login you will see the
following screen
19Finallyyou will be directed to type in your 9
digit number one last time and your new
password.this will get you inside the program
where you can now select your courses..
20- Students not returning next year
- If you do not intend to return next year.
- Log on as above.
- Click the Not Returning link.
- You are now marked as not returning for next
year. - Click on the Exit link to get out of the
Selection Screen. - If your Not returning status changes, click on
the Returning link. You may then click the
course selection buttons.
21Selecting your courses
To add a course to your Selected Options box,
select the course from the Course Options box
with a mouse click and then click on the gtgt
button. Be sure to double check that the course
code is correct. To remove a course from your
Selected Options box, select the course from
the Selected Options box with a mouse click and
then click on the ltlt button.
22And finally
- Check that all of your course selections are
correct and that you have only selected each
course once. Then click on the Exit link to
close out of the application. It will save
automatically. - If you wish to change your selections, click
Back to Option Input Screen. You will then be
able to change your selections. - Once you exit the application you can access it
again to change your selections until the
submission cut-off date, March 1st. - If you forget your password, contact Student
Services. They will reset your password for you. - If you are receiving errors when you try to
submit your requests, close down your web
browser, re-open it and try again.

23Final Thoughts..
- We would like all students to go online by Sunday
February 22nd. - All On-line Option Sheets should be completed by
Tuesday, February 24th. - If need be, you will still be able to make
changes until March 1st - Wednesday, February 25th until Friday, February
27th - those students who have not yet been
online will be asked to go to a computer lab to
go online and make their course selections. - Wednesday, March 4th - Course Verification Sheets
will be printed and distributed to you for
parental signatures. - Thursday, March 5th any errors in course
selections will be corrected in Student Services. - If you are not returning to Nelson, go online and
indicate Not Returning, then exit.
