Title: The Parable of Two Houses

1
The Parable of Two Houses
  • Building our lives upon the foundation of the
    Lord.
  • Matt. 721-27

2
Introduction
  • When the day of Judgment comes your fate will
    have already been secured.
  • It will not matter what man says in the aid of
    his defense.
  • What will matter is the Lord will judge according
    to His all knowing righteousness.

3
Introduction
  • For the wicked Jesus warns them
  • God knows the deeds of an individual.
  • Even if the person seems righteous (like a lamb)
God knows his true character (wolf). Matt. 715-20

4
Introduction
  • It is with this thought in mind that Jesus speaks
to both the righteous and the wicked regarding
    the Day of Judgment
  • The practice of one (his deeds) will determine
whether one enters the kingdom of heaven.
  • Therefore, Jesus likens his listeners to either
being wise or fools in how they act upon His
    words.

5
House Built Upon the Rock
  • This foundation is Christ. Eph. 219-20
  • He was prophesied as a sure foundation. Isa.
    2816
  • He became the cornerstone of faith to all who
believe (while being a stumbling block to those
    who reject Him). Acts 411-12

6
House Built Upon the Rock
  • This foundation is stable.
  • Physically, a house dug deeply and lays its
foundation on the rock, stands firm against
    natures fury.
  • The house may get battered about, but its
foundation keeps the house standing. Cp. Lk. 648

7
House Built Upon the Rock
  • This foundation, therefore, is built upon by the
    wise
  • He hears Gods word. Prov. 108
  • He accepts and does Gods will.
  • Therefore, God judges him to be a wise man.

8
House Built Upon the Rock
  • This foundation (ultimately) is eternal.
  • A person who hears and does Gods word has
nothing to fear on the Day of Judgment.
  • All the trials of this life, including the
Judgment to come is safe against all evil and is
    saved forever!

9
The House Built upon the Sand
  • This foundation is based upon those who reject
the Lords teachings. Cp. Prov. 17
  • Instead of Christ being his rock solid
foundation, he is his own cornerstone. Cp. Acts
    411
  • Because he does not stand on rock solid truth, he
lives on his personal wisdom emotions,
    experiences, etc.

10
The House Built upon the Sand
  • The result is that his foundation is as unstable
    as sand.
  • In this parable, this house is not able to endure
the trials that come its way. Lk. 649
  • There is nothing sure to hold it down.
  • This is the downfall for the one who rejects
    Christ and His truth.

11
The House Built upon the Sand
  • This person who rejects the Lord is judged a
    fool by the Lord.
  • He hears the truth regarding Gods word.
  • Yet, because he is not a doer of Gods will, his
foundation is manifest, leading to Gods
    judgment. Jn. 1248

12
The House Built upon the Sand
  • This foundation (ultimately) is NOT eternal (but
    the consequences are).
  • This person has everything to fear when the Day
    of Judgment comes.
  • His only vain attempt is Lord, Lord. Matt.
    722
  • But Jesus just as He taught 2,000 yrs ago is
Depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.
    Matt. 723

13
Conclusion
  • The wise shall hear, accept, and stand because
    the Lord is their foundation.
  • The fool does not accept the eternal words of
life, and shall not stand in the Day of Judgment.
