    within the participating hospitals

The Problem
  • Organ Tissue donation is a low frequency event
    Low priority in health care
  • Hospital staff may not be identifying potential
    organ donors
  • Families not consenting due to lack of community
    education or not aware of their loved ones wishes
  • Donor pool is limited

Addressing The Problem
  • Based on the US Organ Donation Breakthrough
    Collaborative
  • Began in Australia in July 2006 22 major
    hospitals involved
  • 6 hospitals commenced in October 2007
  • Currently 26 from across Australia are
    participating
  • Project management by the National Institute of
    Clinical Studies(NICS)

  • Education programs ie Nepean workshop, Youth
    Trauma Forum, clergy seminars, hospital education
    etc

  • Trivia nights for both hospitals
  • Nepean has improved notification to the eye bank
  • Development of clinical triggers but know
    revamping to GIVE triggers
