Engineering Report Checklist
Include a cover page with a clear title, the
author(s), the date, and any other necessary
information.
Include an executive summary (abstract) which
summarizes the important findings, including
quantitative results.
An abstract is too general if it could have been
written before the work was performed.
Use the past tense consistently throughout the
report.
The correct length is the shortest length which
conveys all of the information clearly.
Provide units for all engineering quantities.
Define each acronym upon the first use.
Define all parameters used in equations.
Punctuate equations if they are parts of
sentences.
Use graphs and tables with clear captions.
Graphs must have labeled axes with units.
The procedure must be detailed enough so any
electrical engineers could repeat your results.
Discuss the significance of the results.
Be complete. Always report your raw data as well
as calculated results, but feel free to use an
Appendix for this purpose.
Cite references using a standard format, such as
the IEEE format.
Check the spelling.
