Demand vs. supply

• Too soon after reduction in peripheral
  neurophysiology waits for increase in demand to
  be apparent
• CP(N)s diverted to NCS
• Dont forget EEG - 439 waiting gt6 weeks (Feb08)
• More long term EEG monitoring needed for
  management of epilepsy (only surgical programmes
  tend to be funded)
• Overall workforce predicted to fall (WRT 2007)
• 15 CP(N)s lost early in last year, not matched by
  trainees

Sustainability

• Not clear how backlog was cleared
• Fatigue and morale significant issues
• Local 2 week targets undermine 18 week programme
  perceived as inflexible and not appropriate for
  patient management
• 13 new consultant posts unfilled in last year

• National work that could inform local discussions
• Pathway management (information flows)
• Improving referrals GP guidance, proformas
• Speeding up referrals proformas
• Booking systems geography limits one stop
  clinics, CB
• Report communication
• But . each system is unique and IT still
  limited
