Overview
  • 3 year project
  • Funded by DoC jointly managed by QCOSS
    QShelter
  • Objective is to develop a state-wide SAAP network
  • Process is to strengthen connect existing
    networks and build networks within regions or
    focus areas where networks do not exist.

Background
  • Previous mechanisms MAA (disbanded in 2002)
  • 2004 SAAP services commissioned feasibility
    study for establishing a SAAP Network
  • 2007 Funding for the project announced at SAAP
    Ministerial Roundtable
  • 2008 QCOSS QShelter management of the project
    announced.

Purpose of the Network
  • Link and support SAAP Services.
  • Enable the SAAP sector to identify policy and
    program issues, and communicate and act on these
    in a coordinated way.
  • Provide a mechanism for consultation between the
    sector and the department and to input into the
    SAAP Ministerial Roundtable.

Purpose of the Network
  • Keep the sector up to date around developments at
    the state and federal level.
  • Facilitate the identification and sharing of best
    and innovative practice.
  • Contribute to regional planning and the
    development of the homelessness service system at
    the local level.

Reference Group
  • Provides guidance around the implementation of
    the project.
  • Serves as a mechanism for consultation between
    the SAAP sector and the Department of
    Communities.
  • Composition representatives from 12 regions
    across the state and 6 target groups.

Project Activities
  • Regional target group networking activities.
  • Development of regional and target group profiles
    to inform the Department of the distinct features
    of homelessness in each region.
  • Identification and meeting of SAAP Sector
    training needs through developing links with the
    Workforce Council.
  • Biennial State-wide SAAP Conference.

Progress so Far
  • Consultation across the state around the
    preferred networking model for each region
    (June-July 08).
  • Commencement of networking activities in the
    regions mapping regional networks, establishing
    communication mechanisms (e-news bulletin), and
    attending face-to-face meetings.
  • Establishment of the State-wide reference group.

Next Steps
  • Ongoing support of each region to strengthen or
    develop networking mechanisms.
  • Facilitate the SAAP sector to provide input into
    the White Paper implementation planning process.
  • Planning for the State-wide SAAP conference in
    Sept 2009.
