Progress Made

• Better understanding of interaction between
  master node and worker nodes in a SAGE cluster
  system (fsManager, SAIL objects, and SAIL
  receivers)
• Better understanding of application image
  buffers interaction with SAGE (SAGEs
  interception of pixels in applications image
  buffer)
• Established the limitations of SAGE(in terms of
  available software, hardware usage,
  flexibility)-difficulties in mirroring tile
  display information-difficulties in streaming
  pixels from streaming
• Attended two lectures by Taiwanese NCHC
  Researcher Kevin Lin-learned about stereo rear
  projected tiled display technology

Streaming Pixels to SAGE

• VNC Viewer-slow refresh rate impractical for
  interactive usage-very dependent on specific
  client and server applications used-relies
  heavily on hardware (graphics card)
• OpenGL WrapperTake pixels from OpenGL
  application and streams them to SAGE. The
  performance is sufficient to run 1280x1204
  resolution application at an interactive frame
  rate. Defeats the purpose of using a tiled
  display. Might as well use a projector or tv to
  do the same thing. Not useful unless it is able
  to display results in high resolution (such as
  the resolution supported by the tiled display
  system)
• No available molecular viewer for SAGE. Possible
  option is to export molecule data to VRML and
  view in an application such as Vol-a-tile.

Hope to Accomplish(in the next week)

• Surveying and comparison of SAGE tiled display
  technology and Taiwans tiled display technology
• Initial development of structure for streaming
  application pixel output from a computer running
  an application remotely to SAGE
• Through collaboration with NCHC researcher Kevin
  Lin, develop a way to efficiently view molecular
  viewer data output on tiled display wall

• After a night of onsen, fireworks, and a dinner
  of traditional Japanese foods, we have a little
  party in our hotel room!
