  • Welcome to your introduction to geography.
  • Geography is about looking at our world and how
    we interact with it.
  • You will consider aspects of the man made and
    natural world, looking at ways these interact
    with each other.

In Year 7
  • During year 7 you will look at
  • Maps and the skills needed to use them
  • Where people live and why
  • Where are the shops
  • Transport systems
  • Water cycles and rivers

In Year 8
  • During this year you will
  • Study environments and how man interacts with
    them
  • Look at the E.U. and study an E.U. country
  • Study tourism and the leisure industry

In Year 9
  • During this year you will
  • Complete a unit called one world to show how our
    perceptions are not always correct
  • Study Kenya
  • Be amazed by natural hazards
  • Look at the world of work
  • Study Japan

Year 10-11 GCSE
  • You can opt to do Geography at GCSE.
  • We study physical processes in rivers and on
    coasts,the world of work,where people live and
    the natural world.
  • Our optional units are tourism and
    hazards,including volcanoes and hurricanes.
  • Students also carry out fieldwork at Carding Mill
    valley and produce a written report which is
    worth 25 of their final exam mark.
  • In Y11 we visit Drayton Manor Park to study work
    and tourism related issues.

A Level Geography
  • The AS course looks at rivers and coasts with a
    residential field visit to the Yorkshire Coast
  • The Human side of the course studies settlement
    with fieldwork in derbyshire and Birmingham
  • Each student completes a personal research study
    worth 33 of their exam

A Level Contd.
  • At A2,the students consider the future of the
    planet and look at weather,ecosystems and the
    controversial issue of globalisation.
  • Each student carries out research into an issue
    of global challenge which interests them and
    prepares a report as part of the exam.
  • At the end of the year there is an Issues Based
    Exam where students study data and material in
    advance and have to make and justify decisions in
    a real life context.
