Title: The Campus Plan and Preschool and Children

1
The Campus Plan and Preschool and Childrens
Ministry
2
Classroom totals
Current classroom count 7 Preschool and 6
Children
Estimated Future Needs 7 Preschool (Infant,
Toddler, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5) and 13 Children (2 per
grade K) 20
Provided in plan 23 classrooms total on ground
level of existing and Phase 1 Current schematic
designations show 7 Childrens and 16 Preschool.
3
Will the Childrens division be split and
separated by the Preschool Division?
  • The site plan presentation appeared to intend to
add Childrens Division classes in the ground
    floor of the new building

This will split Childrens division classes and
increase traffic through the infants and toddlers
hallway which already needs more security.
Renovation of the current infant rooms into
childrens rooms would allow the preschool to
occupy the new wing and some rooms of the
existing ground floor.
4
How has security for the Preschool been addressed
in the site plan?
  • The site plan places the main exterior entrance
to the Preschool/Childrens area at the corner of
the NE building creating a traffic flow though
the existing Preschool area. This will decrease,
instead of increase, the security of the youngest
    children.

As the church grows larger this issue of child
security will become increasingly important and
will need to be built into this Phase of the
program since it is likely the last increase in
Preschool Children area for several decades.
Room should be provided at exterior entrances for
a security/welcome desk that can control traffic
through the Preschool area.
5
Keeping Childrens Division together.
  • Remodel current infant rooms by removing common
wall. They are too small to be of use as two
    childrens class.

Provide new infant rooms in Phase 1 ground
floor. Security concerns were already outlined
in previous slide. This may require losing a
classroom to gain space for security desk.
6
Will weekday Preschool programs be expanded to
use new space?
  • Increased maintenance.
  • Increased Revenue?
  • Increased Liability.

Has consideration been given to this weekday
ministry. The community need is evident and will
increase with time. How will this affect Phase 1
and site plan?
7
Phase 1 will remove the outdoor play area from
the site plan.
  • There is no provision for outdoor play area space
on the site plan apart from the prison yard
with over 30 foot walls on each side. Poor
ventilation and evaporation of surface water will
cause this area to remain damp in the rainy
    season.

Space should be set aside for an outdoor play
area at the NE corner of Phase 1 at the corner of
the cemetery. This will cost about five parking
spaces. This will be directly adjacent the main
entrance to the Preschool area and readily
accessible to them.
8
Phase 1 will remove the outdoor grass expanses
from the site plan.
  • There is no provision for large outdoor grass
    areas.

Current grass areas are used by RAs and VBS for
childrens play as well as for the annual Easter
Egg Hunt. The site plan should reflect the need
for retaining some kind of outdoor grass expanses
to allow the continued outdoor functions of the
above ministries.
9
Where Will the Preshoolers and Children Play?
  • The site plan contains no outdoor play area or
    grass area.

The defined play area will be surrounded by 30
foot walls. This is not inviting as a play
area. This area would best be used in a
controlled environment like an enclosed atrium
prayer garden.
If children played in this center area the noise
generated would hit the contemporary worship
windows as well as every Sunday School room
facing the center area. This would be
disruptive. Yet, if children cannot play here
during SS or Worship then when would this be
utilized?
10
  • Richland Hills Church of Christ

11
  • Proposed New Location
  • for Childrens Play Area

12
Egress from play area is long and must go
through two buildings in some cases.
  • In an emergency it will be necessary to exit
    quickly from this area.

This area has the longest egress routes and is
scheduled to be used by children.
