  • Around 600 businesses located on MCE
  • The majority are SMEs
  • Large quantities of waste
  • Partnership between ReMaDe Kent Medway,
    Medway Council, Federation of Small
    Businesses and Skipaway Group
  • Funded by South East of England Development
    Agency (SEEDA)

  • ReMaDe conducted a survey to find out
  • Amounts of waste being generating
  • Amount of recycling undertaken
  • Willingness to recycle
  • Businesses environmental awareness
  • 48 companies took part in the survey

  • Waste generated
  • On average businesses surveyed produced 154
    litres of waste per person per week

  • 65 of businesses recycled one or more waste
    streams
  • Nearly all businesses surveyed produced paper and
    cardboard waste although only 34 and 39
    (respectively) was recycled
  • Willingness to recycle
  • Nearly all businesses were willing to recycle or
    wanted more information about our recycling
    project

  • Environmental awareness
  • 85 of businesses surveyed were not aware of
    recycling facilities in or around the Medway City
    Estate
  • 61 of the businesses surveyed had limited
    knowledge of environmental legislation
  • Other useful information
  • There are a number of companies that collect
    waste and recyclable material from the estate

  • Hold an awareness raising event
  • Produce information about which businesses can
    collected recyclables from the MCE
  • Work with waste management companies
  • Work with the Medway Chamber of Commerce to
    create a new business consortium for the MCE
