Examples of a Supporting Paragraph
Poor example It was a good day because it was
fun. I like school. I had fun with my friends.
Good example Today might have been the best day
of fourth grade. We beat the fifth graders at
soccer and I scored the winning goal. Everyone
cheered loudly and even some of the coolest fifth
graders congratulated me after the game!

Examples of a Supporting Paragraph
Poor example My summer vacation wasnt any
fun. I was bored the whole time. It was too hot
to do anything.
Good example It was a rotten summer. My big
brother never invited me to play with his
friends, so I was left at home by myself with
nothing to do. It was too hot to play inside and
our television was broken the entire summer. I
was bored out of my mind, and believe it or not,
I was looking forward to going back to school
ugh!

PERSONAL NARRATIVE
Introduction Crash! The ocean wave broke at my
feet as I readied my surfboard to enter the
water. My family and I were on vacation at Pismo
Beach. We had a wonderful time building
sandcastles, surfing and swimming in the ocean,
shopping on the boardwalk, and feeding the
seagulls. The best part for me was catching the
awesome waves on my surfboard while my little
brother watched jealously from the shore.

PERSONAL NARRATIVE
Supporting Paragraph 1 Early each morning we
would head down to the beach while my mother
headed off to the boardwalk to shop. My dad
would feed the seagulls leftovers from our
breakfast as he watched my brother and I playing
in the cool ocean and hot sand. One of our
favorite activities was building sandcastles and
then tearing them down. We would always take
pictures of our creations before smashing them
cruelly to the ground.

Supporting Paragraph 2 My brother and I loved
to race each other into the ocean after building
sandcastles when we were all hot and sweaty and
covered from head to toe with sand. We swam as
far out as the lifeguard would let us and then
let the humongous waves carry us back to the
beach. We must have done that a million times
each day!

PERSONAL NARRATIVE
Supporting Paragraph 3 Even though I enjoyed
playing with my brother, there was one thing we
couldnt do together, and that was surf. I had
learned years ago in Hawaii but, fortunately, he
is still too young. I suppose in a couple of
years I will teach him how, but for now, catching
and riding the waves is the one time I get to be
all alone in the ocean.

Conclusion In conclusion, I think the beach is
the best place to visit on a family vacation.
Where else can you find such a variety of
activities for every member of a family? In the
water, you can swim or surf and on the land, you
can shop, feed the seagulls or build sandcastles.
My entire family had a blast at the beach and we
are already looking forward to next years
vacation.
