  • Write one or two different words on each index
    card, describing who you are (for example,
    teacher, musician). Place cards face down.
  • 2. Choose 3 cards without looking, tear them
    up and throw them away.
  • Turn up the remaining 2 cards. These represent
    who you are now.

NCLB Fact Sheet Corrective Action (CA) (1 of
4) When schools fail to make adequate yearly
progress (AYP) for 2 years, they are designated
Corrective Action Schools. When schools fail to
make AYP for 4 years they are designated Schools
in Need of Improvement (SINI), and - School
Choice must be provided. - School receives
Technical Assistance (T.A.). - Supplemental
educational services (S.E.S.) must be provided.

  • One of the following actions must be taken
  • Replace relevant staff.
  • Institute new curriculum and professional
    development for staff.
  • Significantly increase management authority at
    school.
  • Appoint outside expert to advise school.
  • Extend school day or year.
  • Restructure school.

NCLB Fact Sheet Corrective Action (CA) (3 of
4) After 2 years of Corrective Action (5 years of
not making AYP), the school goes into
restructuring. School choice, supplemental
educational services and T.A. continue. One of
the following actions must be taken - Reopen as
a charter school. - Replace all or most of the
school staff relevant to making AYP. - Contact
private management company to operate the public
school. - Turn over the school to the state. -
Take another major school restructuring action
(governance).

4) If/when a school makes AYP for 2 consecutive
years, the school is no longer subject to
improvement. If/when a school meets the State
Standard, it is no longer subject to improvement.

  • After 1 year of SINI status, mandatory school
    choice MUST be provided. District MUST provide
    transportation. Lack of capacity is not an
    exception. Funds that may be used are
  • Title I.
  • Title V.
  • - Non-Federal funds.

  • If a Title I School fails to make AYP by the end
    of the first full
  • school year after being identified for school
    improvement, then
  • provisions must be arranged for supplemental
    services for eligible
  • students who attend that school. These are to be

    must be of high
  • quality, research-based and specifically designed
    to increase the
  • academic achievement of the eligible students on
    state
  • assessments. Eligibility status Students are
    eligible for
  • S.E.S. is based on low achievement and low income
    (i.e., students
