Title: Index Notation
1Index Notation (?????)
2Highest Common Factor (H.C.F.) ?????
e.g. factors of 12 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 12 factors
of 18 1, 2, 3, 6, 9, 18. The numbers 1, 2, 3
and 6 are factors of both 12 and 18. We call
each of these factors a common factor (???) of 12
and 18. While 6 is the largest common factor
among all the common factors of 12 and 18, we
call 6 the highest common factor or H.C.F. of 12
and 18.
3Lowest Common Multiple (L.C.M.)?????
e.g. multiples of 44, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28, 32,
36, 40, multiples of 66, 12, 18, 24,
30, 36, 42, 48, The numbers 12, 24 and 36,
etc. are multiples of both 4 and 6. We call each
of these multiples a common multiple (???) of 4
and 6. While 12 is the smallest common multiple
among all the common multiples of 4 and 6, we
call 12 the lowest common multiple or L.C.M. of 4
and 6.
4Simple Fractions (????)
5D) Cancelling(??) reduce the fraction to
its simplest form (????). by dividing the
numerator and denominator by a common factor. E)
