seamless and interoperable IP Telephony and
Multimedia Services based upon ETSI TIPHON
    Technical Specifications.
  • Goals
  • To promote, encourage and facilitate
interconnection of interoperable IP telephony and
    multimedia services among members, worldwide
  • To initiate and support global interoperability
    trials among TIPIA members
  • To define and publish technical requirements and
common service definitions for global network
    service interoperability
  • To develop Interoperability Implementation
    Agreements
  • To provide a forum for the open exchange of ideas
among members to achieve the purposes of TIPIA

TIPIA Organisation / Membership Classes
  • Organisation
  • Not for profit organization registered in
    Delaware, US
  • Membership Classes
  • A Full Member is a member who is a IP Telephony
and Multimedia Service Provider and who either
will interconnect and interoperate at least one
Designated Service with at least one other IP
Telephony and Multimedia Service Provider in
    compliance with applicable Association
Specifications, or has entered into a written
agreement with another IP Telephony and
Multimedia Service Provider to do so,

4
TIPIA Membership Classes
  • An Associate Member is a Member who publicly
announces (or allows the Association to publicly
announce) the Member's commitment to the
Association, and who is an IP Telephony and
    Multimedia equipment vendor provides a
substantial portion of the functionality of an
    interoperable IP Telephony and Multimedia
Services or that is integral to the operation of
    interoperable service by providing the
    Association compliant equipment.
  • An Observer Member is any Member who publicly
announces (allows the Association to publicly
announce) the Members commitment to the
Association, and who does not qualify as either
a Full Member or an Associate Member, or who has
elected not to be a Full Member or an Associate
Member despite qualifying as such. This includes

TIPIA Working Structure
  • Six Focus Teams
  • FT 1 IP Telephony and Real Time Multimedia
    Services
  • FT 2 System Integration and Deployment
  • FT 3 Billing, Accounting, and Settlement and
    Fraud
  • FT 4 QoS Implementation
  • FT 5 Security
  • FT 6 Operation, Administration, Maintenance
    Provisioning

7
FT 1 IP Telephony and Real Time Multimedia
Services
  • The scope of FT1 is to define interoperable IP
Telephony and Real Time Multimedia Services. This
group will liaise with ETSI -TIPHON, ITU-T and
IETF to drive the rapid, harmonized development
    of technical specifications and standards.
Furthermore, this group will develop service
implementation phases. The initial focus will be
    on IP Telephony.
  • For all phases of TIPIA service deployment FT1
    will
  • Define the global TIPIA inter-domain architecture
    and solution
  • Identify and select of relevant networking
    standards, recommendations, and protocols
required to implement the TIPIA architecture for
    the service layer
  • Define the required services
  • Develop detailed technical service descriptions
i.e. define the general technical requirements
for the different principles for billing,
    accounting principles and security, etc.
  • Work with TIPIA FTs to align Implementation
Phases and priorities in the roll-out

8
FT 2 System Integration and Deployment
  • The scope of FT2 is to provide harmonised
framework for the deployment of IP Telephony and
Multimedia Services. This group also defines
system integration and testing procedures for
    TIPIA networks, systems and applications
    including verification/certification/conformance
and compatibility tests. It is also responsible
    for defining the requirements for
    interoperability testing . Furthermore, this
group initiates and conducts Multimedia and IP
    Telephony Services interoperability trials. It
also develops a Project Management Plan with
    specific milestones
  • For all phases of TIPIA service deployment FT2
    will
  • Work with FT 1 to define Implementation Phases
    and priorities in the roll-out
  • Select of relevant networking standards,
    recommendation and protocols required to
implement the TIPIA architecture for the
    transport layer
  • Initiate and conduct interoperability trials
  • Develop the Project Management plan including
    Milestones
  • Define and co-ordinate the relevant test and
    trials to be carried out
  • Address access issues (e.g., wireless, cable,
    etc.)

9
FT3 Billing, Accounting, and Settlement and Fraud
  • The scope of FT3 is to define different business
models of billing and accounting and settlement
for IP Telephony Services and analyze different
types of IP Telephony fraud risks and recommend
cost effective fraud solutions. It develops the
    administrative, operational, and performance
    specifications to support billing, accounting,
and settlement for inter-domain calls, including
billing and accounting and exchange of
    call-related data.
  • For all phases of TIPIA service deployment FT3
    will
  • Develop inter domain billing/ accounting models
  • Develop settlement models for IP Telephony
    Services
  • Investigate fraud issues

10
FT4 QoS Implementation
  • The scope of FT4 includes all aspect of QoS
implementation for the IP Telephony Services. It
develops requirements to support deployment of
inter-domain services with defined QoS levels.
  • For all phases of TIPIA service deployment WG4
    will
  • provide an inter-domain QoS implementation
    framework
  • choose QoS relevant options within the TIPHON
specifications for TIPIA deployment and may
contribute on such topics within TIPHON

11
FT5 Security
  • The scope of FT5 includes all aspects of inter
domain and intra domain security such as
    intercept and data privacy, authentication,
    access control, non-repudiation, confidentiality
    and integrity.
  • For all phases of TIPIA service deployment FT5
    will
  • develop the different Security Policies and
specify a minimum level of security
  • choose security relevant options within the
TIPHON specifications for TIPIA deployment and
may contribute on such topics within TIPHON
  • be responsible for lawful interception issues
within TIPIA in cooperation with EP TIPHON
