6th Grade Science
  • At the start of this new semester, students are
beginning to look at science as a process. This
process will lead us through the next five months
to dive into our three main units.
  • Unit 1 Matter
  • Unit 2 Astronomy
  • Unit 3 Magnets and Motors
  • Unit 4 Ecosystems

6th Grade Unit 1 Matter
  • During this unit, our students will explore the
world of chemistry through taking a closer look
at everything around us, which is made of matter.
We will explore the states of matter, physical
and chemical properties of matter, as well as the
    structure of an atom.

6th Grade Unit 2 Astronomy
  • Throughout the unit on astronomy, students will
explore the Sun-Earth-Moon system that is key to
    our existence.

5
6th Grade Unit 3 Magnets and Motors
  • Students will use magnets and motors to explore
the natural magnetic pull of the Earth as well as
the role magnets play in electricity. Students
will create their own maglev cars to demonstrate
the use of scientific method as well as their
    comprehension of magnets.

6th Grade Unit 4 Ecosystems
  • In our last unit for the year, students will take
a look at the role of ecosystems and their
importance in how our environment functions.
Students will create their own ecosystem to
demonstrate the true cycle of life in its natural
    habitat.

Grade 7 Science
  • The 7th Grade curriculum focuses on life
sciences, or biology. Students begin by looking
at life in its smallest form, the cell. We then
discuss how cells work together to create a
functioning organism. This, in turn, leads us to
the wonderful world of invertebrates and
    vertebrates.

Frog Dissection

8
Life Science
  • Towards the end of the semester, students apply
their knowledge of human organs through the
dissection of a frog. The dissection is a
wonderful way for the students to really see how
our bodies work, in particular, how our organ
    systems work together.
  • Students always have the option to complete this
dissection virtually by use of computer
    software.

Grade 8 Science
  • 8th Grade Science is broken into three main
    units
  • Chemistry
  • Earth Science
  • Physics

Chemistry
  • We begin the new semester by learning about the
building blocks of matter, atoms. We discuss the
properties of matter, as well as both physical
and chemical changes. We then take a close look
at the Periodic Table and identify atomic
structure as well as atomic bonds.

Earth Science
  • We take a look at the Earth from the inside, out.
We discuss the layers of the Earth and the
impact that convection currents in the mantle
have on the movement of the Earths plates.
  • We then move on to the atmosphere and the impact
that weather plays on the Earth, specifically
    natural disasters.

Physics
  • Students review the laws of motion and how those
laws relate to their everyday lives. Students
have the opportunity to design their own roller
coasters on the computer to apply what they have
learned about both kinetic and potential energy.
