6
Ever had a lice inspection at school before?
7
You wait nervously in line while the nurse puts
on her gloves.
  • With a toothpick in each hand she pries through
    your hair.

8
Sometimes you pass and return to class. Other
sometimes you get a pink note sent back home.
  • This one note, is no fun and makes big changes in
    your life.

9
Because once you have lice you have to get
treated.
  • And its not like going to the dentist if only
    it was that easy.

10
So what are these little creatures that require
so much attention?
?
11
Head lice are small insects with six legs that
live on or very close to the scalp.
12
Lice has different stages in their life-cycle.
Nits are not the same thing as lice.
13
A nit takes 7-10 days to hatch. Another 7-10 days
the female will mature and begin laying her own
eggs.
14
The louses mouth is like a very small needle. It
sticks this into the scalp and drinks the blood.
15
  • What are the treatments and procedures needed to
    remove head lice?

16
The methods of removing head lice are a chemical
or physical method.
  • Click here for procedures to both methods

17
What the schools can do to help
  • Remember that most lice are caught in the family
    and the local community
  • The school nurse can advise and support parents
    to check their own families
  • Children who may have lice should not be excluded
    from school
  • Provide information on lice for parents ad staff
    including guides and resources

18
What the families can do to help
  • Make sure family members know about good hair
    care
  • Control head lice by checking their own heads
  • Check all the familys heads every now and then
with a plastic comb (including adults and
    childrens heads)

19
Try not to worry too much about head lice.
  • They are unpleasant, but they rarely do any harm
other than causing an itchy scalp.

20
Remember that people with lice have a lot on
their mind.
  • So be nice to people with Lice.

21
Be Nice to People with Lice Lyrics
  • I got a note today from school
  • Took it home with some special shampoo

  • Why O why did I have to get it
  • I get my own two days vacation
  • Wash hair, my cloths, my pillow
  • Back at school all the kids call me names
  • They say hey lice boy!
  • Someday you might get lice too
  • Your friends will run away from you
