5Be Nice to People with Lice
6Ever had a lice inspection at school before?
7You wait nervously in line while the nurse puts
on her gloves.
- With a toothpick in each hand she pries through
your hair.
8Sometimes you pass and return to class. Other
sometimes you get a pink note sent back home.
- This one note, is no fun and makes big changes in
your life.
9Because once you have lice you have to get
treated.
- And its not like going to the dentist if only
it was that easy.
10So what are these little creatures that require
so much attention?
?
11Head lice are small insects with six legs that
live on or very close to the scalp.
12Lice has different stages in their life-cycle.
Nits are not the same thing as lice.
13A nit takes 7-10 days to hatch. Another 7-10 days
the female will mature and begin laying her own
eggs.
14The louses mouth is like a very small needle. It
sticks this into the scalp and drinks the blood.
15- What are the treatments and procedures needed to
remove head lice?
16The methods of removing head lice are a chemical
or physical method.

17What the schools can do to help
- Remember that most lice are caught in the family
and the local community - The school nurse can advise and support parents
to check their own families - Children who may have lice should not be excluded
from school - Provide information on lice for parents ad staff
including guides and resources
18What the families can do to help
- Make sure family members know about good hair
care - Control head lice by checking their own heads
- Check all the familys heads every now and then
with a plastic comb (including adults and
childrens heads)
19Try not to worry too much about head lice.
- They are unpleasant, but they rarely do any harm
other than causing an itchy scalp.
20Remember that people with lice have a lot on
their mind.
- So be nice to people with Lice.
21Be Nice to People with Lice Lyrics

- Back at school all the kids call me names
- They say hey lice boy!
- Someday you might get lice too
- Your friends will run away from you
