A Vision for the Future

• Our mission is to successfully integrate
  technology and software at Washington Elementary
  to enhance the curriculum already in place. As a
  result of integrating technology into the school,
  students will increase their proficiency in math
  and reading standards. Struggling and advanced
  students will gain higher academic achievement as
  they can work successfully at a pace comfortable
  to them. In addition, the staff will gain a
  greater competency level in the use of
  technological tools to enhance their own
  instructional practices.

Why use technology?

• Are there any topics or curriculum objectives I
  have difficulty teaching?
• Our students have difficulties in math and
  reading, not performing at grade level. The
  students have a very low interest level in the
  subjects and overall do not show motivation or
  enthusiasm for the material. Often times
  students need the skill practice, but find it
  uninteresting and/or tedious on paper.
• Do any of these instructional problem areas have
  technology-based solutions?
• There are vast amounts of software available that
  would provide ample practice opportunity on the
  relative subjects. Drill and practice software
  or instructional game software can help to bring
  math and reading levels upwards.

Why use technology?

• What is the relative advantage of the
  technology-based solutions?
• On screen displays, interaction, and immediate
  feedback can combine to create motivating
  practice. The skills are reinforced in a format
  more susceptible to students allowing them to
  find the material more interesting. The
  technology helps to disguise the material in a
  game format that kids can relate to and engage
  more wholly in.
• Is the relative advantage sufficient to justify
  the effort involved in adopting these solutions?
• Math and Reading are essential components to the
  general curriculum. Developing math and reading
  skills are essential to a students overall
  success in schooling.
• Our National test scores are lower than the
  average in the state and adopting technology
  would give students more resources and more ample
  practice along with our initial instruction that
  will help them to improve on the standardized
  tests.

Integration Plan Overview

• Computer Lab
• Create a computer lab space with 30 computers all
  equipped with the proper software for use by
  entire classrooms.
• Allows for full class instruction.
• Possibility of opening the computer lab after
  hours to service students as well as the
  community.
• Media Center
• Integrate at least 5 computers to the media
  center for students to access internet resources
  and library catalog.
• Allows for computer access for any student.

• Individual Classrooms
• Equip individual classrooms with computers to
  allow teacher and student access within the
  classroom.
• Allows teachers access to technology for
  grade-keeping, office work, and the Internet.
• Staff Training
• Use trained consultants to train the staff in
  effectively implementing the new technology.
• Providing frequent workshops for teachers to
  update skills as technology is an ever-changing
  field.
• For technology to be effective, WE MUST KNOW HOW
  TO USE IT!

Funding

• - The Oklahoma City School District has also
  provided 15,000 to help in equipping the
  computer lab with the necessary materials.
• - PTA has raised over 5,000 themselves to assist
  in the implementation of this new technology.
• - Our PTA has pledged to continue to fundraise to
  help in the continuing education of our staff in
  regards to implementing new technology.
