Yorkists led by Richard Duke of York (great
grandson of Edward III) defeat the Lancastrians
in battle (1461). Richard dies. His son Edward
becomes king. (Henry VI his wife Margaret of
Anjou and son Edward escape to Scotland

Henry VI returns to England. He has the support
of the Earl of Warwick (an ex-supporter of Edward
IV). Henry defeats Edward and becomes king for a
second time. (Edward IV and his wife Elizabeth of
York escape to Holland)

Edward returns to England and defeats Henry VI
and the Earl of Warwick. (He kills them both)

Edward IV dies in 1483. At first his eldest son
Edward (V) becomes king. He is 13 years old.
However, Edward IVs brother Richard captures
Edward V and his brother Richard and puts them
both in the Tower of London. He makes himself
king.

The Lancastrian with the best challenge to the
throne is Henry Tudor. His father, John, Duke of
Somerset was great grandson of Edward III. Whilst
the Yorkists were on the throne Henry Tudor lived
in France. In 1485 he returned to England and
with his army he defeated Richard III, in the
Battle of Bosworth field. Henry Tudor became
Henry VIII.
