Dusting
  • Utilize micro fiber products
  • Micro fibers retain and remove more dust, mold
and bacteria from surfaces than do traditional
feather dusters, cloths or mop heads
  • Utilization of micro fiber products reduces the
    need for chemicals

5
Entryways
  • Goal - Keep as much dirt/soil outside as possible
  • Maintain a solid matting program
  • A good matting program increases the life of your
carpets, decreases the frequency of carpet
cleaning and the amount of chemicals being
    utilized.
  • There are good companies such as St. Louis Mat
    Company that provide these services.

6
Mopping
  • Utilize micro fiber mops and mopping systems such
    as Pace mops
  • Benefits include
  • reducing water consumption
  • reducing cross contamination
  • Reducing the number of mop buckets filled with
chemicals being poured down the drain

7
Floor and Carpet Care
  • Utilize high filtration, four filtered backpack
    vacuums
  • Capable of 99.79 efficiency in filtering
    particles down to 0.3 microns
  • Utilize high speed floor machines which have
built in filtration and vacuum systems
  • Battery powered equipment is equipped with
    environmentally preferable gel batteries
  • Equipment has rubber bumpers to reduce potential
    damage to building surfaces

8
Restrooms
  • Bathroom tissue should have 100 recovered
    materials and 40 consumer content
  • Toilet seat covers should have a minimum 100
recovered materials and 40 consumer content
  • Paper towels should have a minimum 100 recovered
    materials and 40 consumer content

9
Recycling
  • Implement a recycle program
  • Address the separation, collection and storage
    of
  • Paper
  • Glass
  • Plastics
  • Cardboard
  • Metals
  • Batteries
  • Light bulbs

Quick Thoughts
  • Each year, some 50 million trees are cut down to
be used in the manufacture of paper products.
  • The bleaching process to make these products
white results in the release of toxic materials
including mercury and dioxins into the
    environment.
  • According to the EPA, the United States generated
232 million tons of Municipal Solid Waste in
2000. The good news is that we recovered and
recycled 30 of the materials in the waste
stream. The bad news is that we still disposed
of more than 132 million tons of MSW in
    landfills.
  • Studies are beginning to come in that support the
claims that Green Cleaning results in improved
indoor air quality, employee productivity and on
    the job attendance.
