2
Chapter 1The sound Of The Shell
  • Very Descriptive
  • Written in the third person- This allows views on
    all the boys thoughts
  • Colloquial language for the 50s

3
Chapter 2 Fire On The Mountain
  • We are not savages. We are English, and the
English are the best at everything
  • This is ironic as it is Piggy who says this, he
is the proper English boy, and the rest have
    become savages.
  • After the fire The drums continued Very
Primitive- the dance around the fire.

4
Chapter 3 Huts On The Beach
  • The primitive nature is carried on at the
beginning of this chapter with Jack. He behaves
very animal like and his instincts show through.
    was bent double
  • The change back into civilisation is shown
through the building of the huts and the
practicalities that are being stressed over.

5
Chapter 4Painted Faces and Long Hair
  • Pace is increasing. The first line of the chapter
is The fist rhythm This suggests a tribal beat
and that the boys are working by a routine rather
    than by time. (day/night)

6
Chapter 5 Beast from Water
  • More fights occur between Jack and Ralph. The
first paragraph is very descriptive about the
    scenery.

7
Chapter 6 Beast from Air
  • Erratic and argumentative.

8
Chapter 7 Shadows and Tall Trees
  • The word if has been repeated, this suggests
that there was a choice, but there isnt now.
Ralphs outlook on hunting changes in this
    chapter.

9
Chapter 8 Gift for the Darkness
  • Very primitive, savage and tribal.

10
Chapter 9 A View To A Death
  • Savage, as Simon dies, this is very animal like
    and primitive.
  • The throb and stamp of a single organism
contrast at the end of chapter when nature
reclaims Simon in a very beautiful and
    descriptive way.

11
Chapter 10 The Shell and the Glasses
  • Lots of dialogue
  • Lots of childish and playground talk, contrast to
the way that they have been acting, considering
they just murdered one of there own.

12
Chapter 11 Castle Rock
  • Pace is increasing, and continues to throughout
    the chapter.
  • This increases the tension
  • there was, there was
  • Young Simon was murdered this is a very grown
up term, coming from piggy, as if in disbelief .

13
Chapter 12 Cry of the Hunters
  • There is no time lapse between these chapters, it
continues straight on from chapter 11, this keeps
    the pace and tension going.
  • The irony at the end is shown through the authors
perspective, first through Ralph running, then
    through the Naval Officers eyes
  • Fun and Games

14
Ralph wept for the end of innocence, the
darkness of Mans heart, and the fall through the
air of the true wise friend called Piggy.
