2What is EJS?EJS (EBSCOs Electronic Journal
Service) is your gateway to electronic journals
on the web
- When to use EJS
- To read an entire issue of a journal online.
- To browse through current and past issues of a
journal. - To search for articles and other information from
a journals website - Think of EJS as virtual shelf of online journals
Note EJS is not a database for searching for
articles by subject or keyword. For that
function, it is best to use the OCC library
databases, such as Academic Search Elite.

OCC Electronic Journals List provides a list of
all titles available to OCC via EJS
To start select journal from Quick Journal List
My EJS You can register with My EJS so that you
can Receive Table of Content alerts via
email, Save favorite articles .
5From EJS, OCC electronic journals are accessed in
1 of 3 ways
- 1 Linking directly to a journals website
- (Once on the website, some journals may require
username password)
- Selecting volume/issue options and then selecting
journal article from Table of Contents - (These journals are hosted on EBSCOs
server)
- 3 Linking to a journal vendors website (such as
Ingenta) for selecting volume/issue and then
locating journal articles

their articles. Many journals offer Table of
Content alerts

- From the journals website, some journals, such
as American Art, will let you choose articles - Always select Full Text or PDF to display article

require username password for access
- Journal of Dental Education is an example of a
journal that requires username/password - Access Notes - show the codes required by the
journal in order to view articles
Once on the journal website, you can view
username password which you will need to enter
to view articles

journal that links to its website requires a
username/password

11 The 2nd way of accessing journals is
byselecting volume/number options and then
selecting journal article from Table of Contents
The Journal of Higher Education is an EBSCO
hosted title Note that there is no link to the
publishers site, as EBSCO has the Table of
Contents data on its server
- User must select Volume and Number.
12Individual journal articles must be selected from
the journal Table of Contents page
Scroll down abstracts of articles and select
article and link to online display of article.
Select Open in New Window
13The 3rd way to access a journal is from a vendor
supplied website. BioScience is accessed from the
vendor, Ingenta
To link to journal, select Click here to view
issues available at publisher site
A new window will open and you will be taken to
Ingentas website. Select volume and number

15Tips for using EJS and viewing journal information
- To link to view a journal, always select the
link Click here to view issues available at
publisher site. - If a journal requires username and password
codes, they will be listed in Access Notes.
Whenever possible, the following codes were used

- When trying to access a journal article, always
look for Full Text or PDF option
Remember, each journals website will be unique
can change
16A Technical Note Always have Cookies Enabled on
your computer
- From Explorer Toolbar,
- Select Internet Options
- Select Privacy
- Select Advanced Privacy Settings
- Select the options listed on the screen
- This will enable the journal to reuse your
username and password while you are looking at
the online journal
