• Recognise the benefit of being able to intervene
  at the point of misconception
• Are clear that the pedagogy for one to one
  tuition is different from that for classroom
  teaching

• Teachers who are tutors are positive about the
  experience
• Schools consider tuition to be a good CPD tool
• Some teachers found that tutoring had made them
  re-think aspects of whole class teaching
• Good dynamic between teacher and tutor and
  exchange of information supports class teaching

Pupil Guarantee and one-to-one tuition

• There are two separate guarantees relating to
  tuition
• that every pupil, aged seven to eleven who has
  fallen behind national expectations and is not
  making good progress, receives one-to-one tuition
  in English and/or mathematics to get them back on
  track, from September 2010
• that every pupil beginning secondary school
  behind national expectations in English and/or
  mathematics receives one-to-one or small group
  support from September 2010, and their learning
  is assessed through a progress check, which is
  reported to parents.
