9
Disaggregated Data Example
  • Comparison and Performance Levels

10
Science - STARS
  • All Students and Alternate Special Education
    results
  • By content standard
  • Grades 4 or 5, 8 and 11
  • Disaggregated data
  • Same subgroups as Reading and Math

11
NSSRS Source of Data for STARS
  • All students enrolled at any time throughout the
school year that had assessment results (STUDENT
    template)
  • Demographic data for each student
  • STUDENT SNAPSHOT template (2008-06-30) unless a
student has assessment results and is not
enrolled at that date then the demographic data
will be from the STUDENT template

12
STARS and AYP Calculations
  • NSSRS collects performance by student and by
    content standard
  • In parallel year, there were a high number of
instances where the grade level of the
standard did not match the grade level of the
    student
  • Example a third grade students results reported
    on a fourth grade standard
  • NDE will use grade level of the student as the
    basis of all calculations

13
AYP Calculations
  • School Level AYP
  • The grades in the building unless a K-8
  • Will use the grades as reported in the input site
    for AYP in 2006-07
  • District Level AYP
  • If multiple schools with overlapping grade
levels, will use the grades designated in the
    input site for 2006-07

14
AYP Results
  • Students included
  • Full academic year (FAY) from ASSESSMENT FACT
    template
  • Exclude students with medical waivers
  • English Language Learners two district options
  • 1st year Immigrant (recently arrived)
  • Include ELL students for two additional years
  • Data collected in the Consolidated Data
    Collection (CDC)

15
Percent Proficient for AYP
  • Calculate the average performance on all
standards for STARS and alternate standards for
    special education
  • Calculate the percent proficient
  • Average performance is 2.51 or higher
    (Achievement Level Code 8 1.5 Code 9 3.5)
  • Exclude if modified or out-of-level assessments

16
Modified or Out-of-Level Assessments
  • STARS Calculates percentages from all standards
    with results
  • Report Beginning level for each standard that
was assessed with modified or out-of-level
  • AYP Calculates an average performance per
    student on all standards
  • Indicate at the subject level if out-of-level or
    modified
  • Must exclude all standards in that subject area

17
FAY (old) Participation Rate
  • Number and percentage of students who were
enrolled a full academic year (FAY) and were
assessed on at least 75 of the standards
  • Include regular STARS and alternate assessments
  • Displayed but not used for determining AYP

18
NEW Participation Rate
  • Participation Rate used for AYP
  • All students who were assessed at any time
  • Calculate by subtracting the number of students
who were enrolled at the end of the school year
as reported on the STUDENT SNAPSHOT (2008-06-30)
    and were not assessed

19
Not Assessed Students for AYP
  • Counted as Not Assessed
  • Students with all N Not assessed
  • Students with parent waivers
  • Students with out-of-level or modified
    assessments
  • Counted as Assessed
  • All students except those with Medical waivers or
    all M Moved

20
Another AYP Change
  • Every school and district with fewer than 30
students in grades 4 and 8 for Writing
  • Add the number (count) of students from the
    current and the previous year
  • Include only students who were enrolled a FAY
  • Use the weighted average of the two years of
    performance results

21
Verification of AYP Data
  • AYP Counts available now
  • Calculates the data previously submitted for AYP
  • Number of students enrolled a full academic year
    (FAY)
  • Number and percent of FAY students with
proficient and advanced levels of performance
  • Number and percent of FAY students assessed on at
least 75 of the standards (old participation
    rate)
