Testing, Testing, Testing-?Production

• After rigorous testing and committee work
  (SUS-OPAC) Endeca was launched into Full
  Production
• We are in a user testing phase
• Bugs have been reported to FCLA and they are
  being fixed on a timely basis

Some Problems arent as easy to fix Browse Search

• Browse capabilities
• What do we mean by Browse?
• We think of it as letting a user search by title,
  subject, or author and giving them an alphabetic
  list of records they can look through
• Search for Libraries as Place
• Libraries as partners in adult literacy
• Libraries as places  Buildings for the 21st
  century
• Libraries As Vehicles of Universal Service

Problems with Browse cont

• FCLA has determined that this feature takes up
  too much overhead (computing space)
• Other Universities using Endeca give patrons a
  Browse search in the form of a Call range
• We have this feature, but the user has to
  complete a search first.

lookahead

• FCLA has been testing a new lookahead feature
  will give patrons a list of populated terms as
  they type in their search criteria.

• The downside is they are limited to the list of
  15 items that appears at any one time in the
  virtual dropdown

Reporting a Problems, concerns, frustrations

• There is a link at the top of the Endeca page
  labeled Provide Comments
• Several staff members report problems to FCLA via
  their prb tracking system

• A blog intended for consumption by staff and
  patrons has been setup

Future Enhancements

• FCLA has created a Testing interface where they
  can work on implementing new features without
  worrying about breaking the Production interface
• The SUS-Usability Group will test out new
  features before they are implemented
