Information Security Advice Confederation of
British Industry (www.cbi.org.uk) The CBI
represents companies from all sectors of UK
business. It is a source of expert advice and
information, and a forum for the generation of
ideas and best practice exchange. The CBI's
business guides cover issues such as business
continuity and protecting your business in the
electronic age. National Infrastructure Security
Co-ordination Centre (NISCC) (www.niscc.gov.uk)
NISCC is an inter-departmental organisation
which co-ordinates and develops work to defend
the Critical National Infrastructure (CNI)
against electronic attack. It works with
Government departments and agencies as well as
organisations in the private sector. NISCC also
runs UNIRAS, the UK Government Computer Emergency
Response Team (CERT) (see below). Unified
Incident Reporting and Alert Scheme / UNIRAS

to gather information on IT security incidents in
Government departments and agencies, producing
periodic analysis and assessment of incidents and
trends. It also issues alerts and briefings on

Technical Authority for Information Assurance

Assurance arm of GCHQ which provides advice and
assistance on the security of communications and
electronic data. It works with Government
departments and agencies and the Armed Forces, as

The Cabinet Office's CSIA unit works with
partners in the public and private sectors to
help safeguard the UK's IT and telecommunications
services. The CSIA website provides advice for

practices. Security Industry Authority

Authority, which reports to the Home Secretary,
manages the licensing of the private security
industry as set out in the Private Security
Industry Act 2001. It also aims to raise
standards of professionalism and skills within

provider of standards covering every aspect of
